Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have reportedly taken a major step in their relationship after their yearslong separation: They're living together again.
The update comes three years after Jada revealed in 2023 that she and Will had quietly separated in 2016, despite remaining legally married.
"It was not a divorce on paper, but it was a divorce," Jada said on Today, explaining that they had been leading "completely separate lives."
The revelation surprised fans at the time because the two had still been appearing together publicly over the years. It also reframed several high-profile scandals during their relationship, including the 2020 reveal of Jada's "entanglement" with singer August Alsina, and the infamous Oscars slap moment in which Will struck Chris Rock for joking about Jada.
Explaining why they hadn't revealed their split sooner, Jada said that they weren't ready to share the news while they were still trying to figure out what their relationship looked like.
“We’re still figuring it out,” she told People in 2023. “We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
She added, “I’m going to be by his side…but also allow him to have to figure this out for himself.”
Despite the separation, the two had repeatedly said over the years that divorce wasn't an option for them.
“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce,” Jada told Hoda Kotb. “We will work through whatever. And I just haven’t been able to break that promise."
Will shared a similar sentiment with MTV News in 2006, saying, “Divorce can’t be an option. With Jada, I stood up in front of God and said, ‘Til death do us part.' So there are two possible outcomes. One, we are going to be together ‘til death, or two, I am dead."
Earlier this year, the two sparked reconciliation rumors when they were seen holding hands in Paris while supporting their son Jaden's Christian Louboutin fashion show — and now, the latest report says they're back on and have been quietly living together again for some time.
“Jada moved back in with Will two years ago,” a source told People. “They are happy and love each other and are, as ever, committed to supporting each other.”
A source also previously offered an update on Will, who has appeared in few major projects since the 2022 Oscars incident, which resulted in him being banned from attending the ceremony for 10 years.
“Will is busy with film and music and doing okay," the source said, adding that he “is a bit disillusioned with Hollywood but that could all change with some new success."
