A new retrospective trailer celebrating the remarkable career of Tom Cruise has been released, taking audiences on a whirlwind journey through more than four decades of cinematic history before offering an intriguing glimpse at his next ambitious project, ‘DIGGER.’ The video serves as both a tribute to one of Hollywood’s most enduring stars and a first look at the latest collaboration between Cruise and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
The retrospective highlights the extraordinary breadth of Cruise’s filmography, revisiting defining moments from a career that has spanned drama, comedy, romance, science fiction, action and suspense. From his breakout years in films such as ‘Risky Business’ and ‘Top Gun’ to acclaimed performances in ‘Rain Man,’ ‘Born on the Fourth of July,’ ‘Jerry Maguire’ and ‘Magnolia,’ the montage showcases Cruise’s evolution from charismatic leading man to one of cinema’s most bankable and versatile stars.
The trailer also revisits many of the blockbuster roles that have defined modern moviegoing, including his work in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise, ‘Minority Report,’ ‘Collateral,’ ‘War of the Worlds,’ ‘Tropic Thunder,’ ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ and ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’ Together, the clips paint a portrait of an actor whose willingness to take risks and reinvent himself has kept audiences captivated for over 40 years.
While the retrospective serves as a celebration of Cruise’s legacy, its ultimate destination is ‘DIGGER,’ a film that appears poised to reveal yet another side of the actor. Shot entirely in VistaVision, the film follows the most powerful man in the world as he embarks on a desperate mission to convince humanity that he is its saviour before the catastrophe he has unleashed destroys everything.
Cruise stars as Digger Rockwell, a larger-than-life figure whose actions trigger a global crisis. Early footage suggests a dramatic transformation for the actor, with Cruise appearing almost unrecognisable as the eccentric and controversial billionaire. The role marks a significant departure from the heroic action figures audiences have come to associate with him in recent years.
Joining the ensemble is an impressive cast that includes Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg and Jesse Plemons. Iñárritu directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone and Sabina Berman.
