The University of Rhode Island Student Senate swore in its new jury, passed two bills and discussed upcoming plans for dining on Wednesday.

The nominations for the jury were Genevieve Walsh, Jayci Tickner, Meghan Capano, Catherine Fullerton and Jackson Brent. All were sworn in unanimously with one abstention for Brent.

Campus Affairs Chair Sebastian Rosa will be meeting with Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Living Thomas Cooley on Wednesday. They will discuss the next steps for dining and Mainfare Hall construction over the summer.

The first bill was to recognize the disc golf club as a senate-recognized organization. In lieu of recognition, disc golf was given two packages of $50.

“They are a club that practices [the sport],” Chair of External Affairs Arpan Singh said. “They aren’t competitive with other universities.” 

The second bill was for a bylaw change that requires a three-quarters majority vote concerning elections. This bill changes the legislation for elections from subsection to subsection.

“I picked this bill in order to create a more concrete set of regulations, since there’s actually nothing that stimulates results,” Sen. Dylan Waddell said.

The bill was passed unanimously.

The student senate will not meet again next week.
