Former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly plotting a reunion with a Reds' star
Ruben Amorim is reportedly plotting a reunion with Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui at AC Milan after taking over at the Serie A side earlier this summer.
However, it remains to be seen whether Michael Carrick would sanction such a move, having hailed the 'fantastic' defender earlier this season.
The report from the journalist Matteo Moretto, appearing on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel, claims Amorim would be keen on signing the Moroccan this summer.
That being said, there have been no talks between the two clubs and Mazraoui is under contract until the summer of 2028, with United holding the option to extend his contract for another season.
It's claimed that Mazraoui's versatility is a major attraction for the Rossoneri, who will line up in a 3-4-2-1, Amorim's preferred formation which came under fire at Old Trafford.
Despite the interest, it's clear that Carrick rates the Moroccan international highly and was quick to praise Mazraoui for his performances after returning from the African Cup of Nations last season.
The 28-year-old, who finished as runner-up in the competition, showed no sign of a hangover from that tournament.
"Yeah he’s come back well, Nous," Carrick said. "It was a difficult one, obviously, on the back of the final and how it panned out.
"[He had] a few days to digest that then back in and around it. He’s been fantastic in and around the group and around training.
"Obviously, he came on at the end of the game and played a part for us, as you’d expect.
"So yeah, again [we want to] just keep thickening the squad, bolstering the squad and it’s great to have him back."
