A Chelsea man connected to Boston University pleaded not guilty on Friday after being arrested and charged with harassing and threatening BU campus, students and deans, court records show.
Maximillien Sajous, 29, was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court, Brighton Division, Friday morning, according to court documents. Sajous was charged with two counts of threat to commit a crime, two counts of making a bomb or hijack threat, two counts of criminal harassment and two counts of stalking, according to a press release from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
He was committed to the Suffolk County Jail without bail pending a final hearing on dangerousness set for May 21, court documents show.
In January, Sajous sent over 200 emails to multiple BU employees after the University issued him a $20,000 bill, according to the press release.
Several months later, he posted a series of photos on Instagram, including what appeared to be a Google Street View photo of a Boston University police cruiser at Nickerson Field, spent shell casings scattered on the street and Sajous at a Virginia gun training facility, the press release claims.
Following the string of Instagram posts, BU barred Sajous from entering the University’s premises and requested that Chelsea police perform a well-being check, during which Sajous was not at his address, the release states.
Sajous has not been on campus since early 2026, according to a BU Today article.
In April, Sajous sent more emails to BU staff asking to speak with the Dean of Students and posted another series of photos on Instagram, including one of the Dean of Students’ family, the press release states.
A warrant for Sajous’ arrest was issued, but upon investigation, police tracked his location to outside of the United States, according to the press release.
The Boston University Police Department arrested Sajous late Thursday night at Boston Logan International Airport after he arrived on a flight from Paris.
BU President Melissa Gilliam addressed the arrest and commended BUPD in a university-wide email Friday evening.
“I want to acknowledge the sadness that we feel for the members of our community who have been affected,” Gilliam wrote. “Our concern also extends to this individual.”
Although the press release refers to Sajous as a “BU student” and Sajous’ LinkedIn profile reads he is enrolled in BU’s School of Law, Gilliam wrote that Sajous is not actively a BU student.
Sajous’ LinkedIn also claims he is a member of the editorial board for BU Law Review. A LinkedIn post by the independent, student-run journal from last June lists his name as a staff member for the 2025-2026 academic year.
The BU Law Review did not respond to a request for a comment.
BU Police Chief Rob Lowe said there are no campus safety concerns following the arrest, according to a BU Today article.
Suffolk County District Attorney Kavin Hayden thanked the BUPD for its quick investigation into the case and collaboration with other agencies, the press release states.
“The level of detail in this harassment campaign is extremely disturbing,” Hayden said, according to the release. “I’m thankful that Boston University officials and police acted as quickly and effectively as they did.”
