The 26-year-old from Colombia was shot by federal immigration agents Monday morning.
BIDDEFORD — Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero adored his 3-year-old daughter.

He worked two jobs. He was raised with virtue in Bucaramanga, a midsized city in northern Colombia.
And he was shot and killed at a Biddeford intersection by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent early Monday morning.
Guerrero, 26, was authorized to work in the United States, according to Presente! Maine, and had been issued a Social Security number.
“He was a member of our community, a neighbor and a human being whose life was cut tragically short,” the organization said in a statement.
The Colombian Embassy confirmed his identity Tuesday.
Yasmin, a friend who asked that she be identified only by her first name due to lingering fear, described Guerrero as an affectionate and loving father who had lived in the U.S. for about three years, had legal status and was in the process of seeking asylum.
“She was his princess,” Yasmin said of Guerrero’s daughter.
Guerrero’s father, Omar Durán, told the Spanish-language news outlet Telemundo that his son was a loving, hard-working father who moved to the U.S. to build a future for his family and often rose early to start work.
“He was a wonderful son, and I don’t know why they did that to him,” Durán said in Spanish. “I don’t know why they did that to him. I just don’t know.”
Guerrero’s wife posted a photo of him and his family on social media Tuesday afternoon. “I love you,” she wrote in Spanish. “I have no words for this pain, my life, my love, watch over me, help me to have strength, I love you, stay with me always — don’t leave me alone, I beg you, my love.”

Guerrero was making payments on the Kia he was driving, which was registered under someone else’s name, Yasmin said. She suspects the agents who stopped and killed Guerrero were looking for the car’s owner.
“I am afraid because they didn’t ask if he had legal status—they just killed him,” said Yasmin, who is a legal resident.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro called Guerrero’s killing a “murder at the hands of U.S. government” in a post on social media. A vigil is planned in his Bucaramanga neighborhood Tuesday night.
Guerrero worked as a food delivery driver and frequently collected orders from local restaurants in Biddeford. Madalynn Gagne, who works at the city’s Applebee’s, said Guerrero came to pick up orders several times each week, often with his family waiting in the car.
“He would always ask how we were doing,” Gagne said. “He would always ask if we needed anything. He was always just a good smile to see.”
Recent photos from Guerrero’s Facebook page showed him grinning with his partner and daughter.
Local immigrant activists are helping Guerrero’s family with a GoFundMe to support them through his death. It had raised more than $100,000 by Tuesday afternoon.

Guerrero was driving in a residential Biddeford neighborhood when he was shot and killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents shortly after 7:15 a.m., an agency spokesperson confirmed.
Guerrero was trying to flee when an agent opened fire, the agency said. ICE was executing a warrant of which he was not a subject, officials confirmed.
Security footage from a nearby pawn shop shows the white Kia that Guerrero was driving roll into crosswalk and circle the intersection at slow speed several times before agents ram the vehicle and remove Guerrero. The shooting appears to have happened out of view, on a part of Pool Street not covered by the shop’s cameras.
Cory Poulin, owner of the pawn shop and a laundromat in the building, said Guerrero would often come in and give his daughter quarters to use at the vending machine.
The little girl was scared of Poulin’s two French bulldogs, he said.
Nearby residents said Guerrero’s partner and daughter witnessed the aftermath of the shooting. Neighbors heard the family’s cries echo through the streets immediately after.
“She was still in her Bluey pajamas,” Cecelia Humiston, who lives nearby, said of Guerrero’s daughter.
Her young son has Bluey PJs too.
Guerrero and his family live in a part of Biddeford with a large immigrant community, according to neighbors and nearby residents. Many people from Central and South America have moved to the city in search of a better life, they said.
A shopkeeper at a convenience store just up Pool Street from where Guerrero was shot said the man often came to buy groceries with his family.
“He was just in here last week. Someone showed me his picture yesterday and I couldn’t believe this happened to him,” said the shopkeeper, who gave his name only as Pedro out of fear of ICE retribution.

“It’s quiet here,” he added. “No gangs, no violence. And now this happened.”
The killing has struck fear in Biddeford’s immigrant community said Yasmin, Guerrero’s friend. She and her mother make deliveries on Spark Driver, the same platform he used. They didn’t go out yesterday.
“What happened to Sebastián could happen to any of us,” she said.
