Ray Williams was wrapping up a day of work at My Cuts Barbershop on East Main Street on Tuesday when he got a text message asking him to cut hair for someone he never expected — Grammy-nominated singer Mike Posner.Williams said he thought the request was fake, until a deposit came through and he realized it was real."His manager reached out to me. He said that he found me on Instagram, and that he checked out a couple of Buffalo barbers' profiles but loved my work," Williams said.The house call took Williams to Buffalo, where Posner was staying at the Curtiss Hotel for a speaking engagement."I cut his hair in his suite," Williams said.Posner, a Detroit native, rose to fame with his 2010 debut album "31 Minutes to Takeoff," which included the hit single "Cooler Than Me." He earned a 2017 Grammy Award nomination for Song of the Year for the Seeb remix of his 2015 song "I Took a Pill in Ibiza." He has also written songs for artists including Justin Bieber and Maroon 5.After the deaths of several close friends, including fellow musician Avicii, Posner stepped back from the pop spotlight. He walked 2,851 miles across the United States in 2019 and summited Mount Everest in 2021.In March, Posner released "I Went Back to Ibiza," a song about sobriety and his new Christian faith that he has described as a lyrical sequel to "I Took a Pill in Ibiza."Williams said the two talked for hours in the hotel suite."We talked about everything: faith, family and music. He got baptized the day before he got to Buffalo, and it was amazing hearing places and things he's done," Williams said.For Williams, the whole experience reinforced something he already believed about his craft."Some things are just meant to be when you work hard and stay consistent," Williams said.
