Friends have also launched a fundraiser to support his family with funeral costs

The funeral of a dad-of-three who died after falling from a bonfire in Belfast will take place next week.

Warren “Aka” Lyttle, who was aged in his 40s, died following an incident at an Eleventh Night bonfire in the Braniel estate in the east of the city on Friday night. He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries on Saturday.

A statement from the Braniel Bonfire Committee, Braniel Loyal Flute Band and Braniel Community Group said there had been a “tragic accident” at the bonfire. Following discussions with his family, the bonfire was lit as planned on Saturday night.

Police are investigating the circumstances of what happened, and the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) has also been informed.

Late of Holywood Road in Belfast, a funeral notice said Mr Lyttle was the beloved son of Joan and the late Robert; devoted father of Taylor, Lacey and Cole and cherished brother of Glenn and Mark.

His funeral service will be held from his brother’s home on Monday next, July 20 at 1.30 pm and afterwards to Roselawn Crematorium for 3.20pm.

The notice added: "Family flowers only please. Will be sadly missed by his loving family circle.

"Tomorrow is promised to no-one, today is all we have."

Friends of Mr Lyttle have launched a fundraiser to support his family with funeral costs. Over £8,000 has been raised on a GoFundMe page set up in the wake of the tragedy,

Organiser Stephen Johnston said: "Hi. My name is Janty. We are fundraising for our childhood friend Aka, who sadly lost his life on 11th July following a tragic accident. Any donations would be greatly appreciated to help towards funeral costs."

Paying tribute, another friend added: "We are all just devastated at the passing of our best mate Warren ‘Aka’ Lyttle.

"No words can describe Aka’s passing, the shock, and way too soon. Tremendous character and friend."
