Valve has already checked off two of the three products from its latest hardware lineup. The new Steam Controller is available, and the Steam Machine has officially launched. Steam Frame is now the only device still waiting for its full release.

Valve has not announced the Steam Frame price, launch date, or final availability details yet, but a new software update suggests the headset may be getting closer.

A SteamDB listing for the Steam Frame Wireless Adapter Driver now shows the app as a Windows tool. More importantly, its release state has changed to “released.”

The driver itself is not new. Valve has pushed updates for the Steam Frame Wireless Adapter Driver before, but the “released” status is the part that stands out now. Drivers and supporting tools usually move closer to final status when hardware is being prepared for public use, review testing, or launch-day setup.

The wireless adapter matters because Steam Frame is built around streaming. Valve says the headset includes a plug-and-play 6GHz wireless adapter for dedicated VR and non-VR streaming from a PC. A released Windows driver points to Valve preparing the PC-side software needed for that feature.

SteamDB has also shown recent activity for the driver, with around two dozen people using or testing it. That does not confirm review units are already out, but it does suggest the driver is no longer sitting idle in Valve’s backend.

Valve announced the Steam Machine price and launch details shortly before reviews and early units started appearing. If Steam Frame follows a similar pattern, the next step could be the price and release date reveal.

Steam Frame is expected to be the most unusual device in Valve’s new hardware lineup. Unlike Steam Machine, which is a SteamOS living-room PC, Steam Frame is a standalone VR headset that can also stream games from a PC. It can run games directly on the headset, but Valve is also pitching it as a high-quality wireless Steam streaming device.

Valve has already started preparing the software side. The company recently expanded Steam Verified to include Steam Machine and Steam Frame, giving developers a way to show whether games work properly on the new hardware. Steam Frame also has its own standalone verification program for games that run directly on the headset.

The Steam Controller is already available, and Steam Machine buyers have started getting access to Valve’s new living-room PC. Steam Frame is now the missing part of the lineup, and it is also the product with the most unanswered questions.

Valve still needs to confirm the price, launch markets, order process, storage options, and whether availability will be limited at first. The headset is expected to attract both PC VR users and Steam Deck fans who want a more open alternative to Meta Quest.

The released Windows driver does not count as a launch announcement, but it is a strong sign that Valve is lining up the final pieces. Steam Frame now has compatibility ratings, a public hardware page, a wireless adapter driver marked as released, and visible testing activity.

At this point, Valve’s next Steam Frame update could finally be the one people are waiting for: the price and release date.
