In our The Alters: Last Variable Crafting Guide, we tell you how the crafting system works in this DLC for The Alters and how you can unlock new crafting recipes for Jan Scientist and his crew.

As with the base game, you can "Uphold" a certain number of any item to ensure you always have some on hand — provided that you have the resources, of course.

The Alters: Last Variable crafting system is largely unchanged from the crafting system in the base game. Assuming you have the crafting recipe and the necessary resources, you can queue items to be crafted in the Workshop. You (or an Alter) must then spend the requisite amount of time to craft that item.

Additionally, you can "Uphold" items in the Workshop (along with certain other stations, such as the Refinery). This ensures that a minimum level of items is available at all times, assuming you have the resources. This is a good way to make sure you always have some Repair Kits and Radiation Filters on hand.

While you can craft items in the Workshop yourself, it's often better to assign an Alter to do your crafting for you. This is especially true of the Physicist since he has a +50% efficiency bonus when he's crafting items in the Workshop.

When you're out in the field, you do not have the ability to craft items until you complete the "Quick Crafting" research. Once you do, this allows you to craft a handful of critical items (such as Suit Batteries and Drill Cartridges) out in the field. Bear in mind, crafting in the field is more expensive than crafting in the Workshop.

If you run low on storage space, crafted items (and raw resources) can be destroyed in the Storage tab of the menu. While you can get refunds for destroying base modules you've built, the same rule does not apply to crafted items. Don't craft more stuff than you need!
