It's been 25 years since the Hummer H2 debuted at the 2002 L.A. auto show, and now the electric GMC version is celebrating.
If you're old enough to remember the yellow Hummer H2 that was launched at the 2002 Los Angeles auto show, you'll likely appreciate the new special edition that was created to celebrate that SUV's 25th anniversary. While the new 2027 GMC Hummer EV Icon 25 looks a lot different than its forefather, not to mention it trades the original H2's V-8 for an all-electric powertrain that makes up to 1000 hp, its lane-hogging dimensions and yellow paint give off the same vibe.
The limited-production Hummer EV Icon 25 is available for both the SUV and pickup truck; it requires choosing either the 2X or 3X trim level, though. Once you've picked your preferred trim and body style, you'll enjoy a yellow "Icon" paint color reminiscent of the OG Hummer's exterior hue. The new versions also feature a black-painted bumper shield, which coincidentally pairs with a Jet Black interior color theme. Along with a serialized badge on the dashboard, the electric Hummer's infotainment system includes drive-mode animations that reference the heritage version.
Along with the commemorative Icon 25, the 2027 Hummer EV lineup adopts Tesla's proprietary NACS charge port, which includes access to the vast Supercharger network. And for those who want to use their electric Hummer as a mobile power station, its bidirectional charging lets owners juice their home during an outage, provided they have a GM Energy PowerShift Charger and the associated Energy V2H Enablement kit. For the '27 model year, GMC also introduces new paint options: Azurite Blue, Dark Ember, Dark Ridge, Deep Void Matte, and Icon.
GMC says the 2027 Hummer EV SUV and truck will enter production sometime later this year at GM's Factory Zero Assembly Center in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan. While GMC hasn't confirmed how many examples of the special edition will be made, a photo of the serialized badge on the dashboard suggests that the plan is to make just 250. We're told pricing will be announced sometime before they reach dealerships.

His aspiration growing up was to become a millionaire with a Jay Leno–like car collection. Apparently, getting rich is harder than social-media influencers make it seem, so he avoided financial success entirely to become an automotive journalist and drive new cars for a living. After earning a journalism degree at Central Michigan University and working at a daily newspaper, the years of basically burning money on failed project cars and lemon-flavored jalopies finally paid off when Car and Driver hired him. His garage currently includes a 2010 Acura RDX, a manual '97 Chevy Camaro Z/28, and a '90 Honda CRX Si.
