Designed to bridge the gap between hardware and software, Freqport’s FreqInOut FO1 unit provides a simple way for users to add some outboard hardware to their DAW sessions without sacrificing the convenience of plug-ins. Now, the company have introduced the FreqInOut FO1-2RK, a new system which doubles up the capabilities of the FO1, placing two units alongside each other in a 1U rackmount housing to allow for eight channels of I/O. 

Aside from the increased I/O count, everything else about the system remains the same. Connection to a host computer is provided by USB-C, with Freqport’s AnalogHarmony streaming technology delivering sample-accurate timing and allowing each piece of connected outboard to be used in a DAW session in the same was as a typical plug-in — all routing, latency compensation and hardware control functions are handled by the plug-in. 

As well as handling the I/O routing, the system also provides a Hardware Mix control for parallel processing, a M-S mode for Mid-Side encoding/decoding and an analogue matrix that offers some flexible signal routing between connected hardware. It’s also expandable, and allows users to combine up to four FreqInOut units (two Dual FreqInOuts) for a total of 16 inputs and 16 outputs. 

Alongside the new hardware, Freqport have also released FreqSoft v1.10.0, a new and improved version of their installer software that boasts improved support for both the FO1 and Freqtube FT-1.
