Conservancy workers of Tiruppur City Corporation were recently apprised of their rights under welfare schemes through zonal camps. Conducted at four zones under the Sanitary Workers Development Scheme, the camps sensitised them to the rights they and their family members were entitled to under various government welfare schemes.

R. Balasubramaniam, Acting Mayor, took part in the camp held in Zone 4 while Tiruppur North MLA V. Sathyabama visited the camps held in Zone 1 and Zone 2. The conservancy workers registered with the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department for accident relief, death compensation, educational assistance, marriage assistance and maternity benefits through the Sanitary Workers Welfare Board.

Officials of TAHDCO (Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation Limited) drew the attention of the conservancy workers to the provision for loans, self-employment assistance, livelihood support, and land ownership scheme. The Revenue Department spread awareness on obtaining certifications for community, income, residence, and legal heir, besides Aadhaar enrolment, correction of name/address details, and new ration card applications.

The awareness camps also detailed specifics of Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) of the Health and Family Welfare Department; old-age pension, widow pension, Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam, and Pudhumai Penn Scheme services through the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department.

Other topics covered by the camps include accident/death compensation assistance through Labour Welfare Board; opening of zero-balance Jan Dhan bank accounts and financial guidance; UDID cards, maintenance assistance and welfare registrations for persons with disabilities; scholarships, free house-site pattas and other welfare services through the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department and the Education Department; and free skill development training and employment counselling for family members of conservancy workers through the Skill Development Corporation, Tamil Nadu.

In all, 2,382 beneficiaries were enrolled under various government welfare schemes through the special camps, Tiruppur Corporation Commissioner M.P. Amit said.
