Taylor Farms, which supplies major grocery store and restaurant chains, has also been linked to a separate Cyclospora outbreak

A major US produce supplier has recalled jalapeno products sold through major grocery store and restaurant chains amid a Salmonella outbreak, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Taylor Farms has also been linked to a separate multistate outbreak of another foodborne illness.

The recalled products contained jalapenos grown in the Mexican state of Sinaloa and distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors, according to the FDA.
A number of retailers, including Hannaford, Kroger, Stop & Shop, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, and Whole Foods, received recalled products across 26 states. An investigation into the outbreak is still underway.

At least 345 people have contracted Salmonella since mid-June, according to health authorities, with dozens of hospitalizations reported.

People usually contract Salmonella infections after consuming food contaminated with the bacteria. Symptoms commonly include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are at greater risk of developing serious complications.

Last month, Taylor Farms de Mexico also removed shredded iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico from the US market after health authorities identified the produce as the source of a cyclosporiasis outbreak, a parasite-borne intestinal illness. Investigators linked illnesses to people who had eaten at Taco Bell restaurants in multiple states.

The outbreak, which began in May, has sickened at least 6,358 people across 15 states, according to the CDC. In total, 278 people have been hospitalized and two deaths reported. Health officials have warned that the true number of infections is likely higher, as some people recover without medical care and are never tested for Cyclospora.

Cyclosporiasis can cause prolonged diarrhea, as well as bloating, gas, stomach cramps, nausea, fatigue, and other gastrointestinal symptoms.

Taylor Farms was also the supplier of yellow onions implicated in a 2024 E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders.
