Hi @florian87 ,
Thank you for taking the time to write this out, and I’m genuinely sorry for the experience you’ve had. This is not the standard we want for BetterLinks, and you shouldn’t have had to deal with these issues.
We’ve looked into both of the issues you mentioned, and they have been addressed.
The forward slash handling in the MCP integration was fixed in version 3.1.3, which is already available. Multi segment slugs now stay intact, and the configured link prefix is applied correctly, so links like go/my-link work as expected.
We’ve also identified what was causing redirects between two WordPress pages to stop working, and the fix is ready. It’s scheduled to be released this week.
In the meantime, there is a simple workaround you can use. If the WordPress page you’re trying to redirect from is currently published, please change it to Draft status first. Then create the redirect in BetterLinks using that page’s URL as the source and your destination page as the target. Once the redirect is created, you can publish the WordPress page again. The redirect should continue to work normally.
I apologize again for the inconvenience and for the frustration this has caused. We know reliable redirects are the core of what BetterLinks is supposed to do, so we completely understand your concern about updating the plugin.
We’d really appreciate it if you gave BetterLinks another try. We’ll let you know as soon as the next release with the permanent fix is available.
Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.
I’ve had repeated issues where updates break functionality that previously worked.
One update introduced MCP support but had problems handling forward slashes correctly in links. Then, after another update, a simple redirect from one WordPress page to another stopped working.
Yes, this is a redirect plugin that cannot reliably perform a basic redirect 😅
Bugs can happen, but in my experience this has happened far too often. Updates repeatedly introduce regressions, and at this point I no longer feel confident updating the plugin without wondering what might break next.
For a redirect plugin, reliable redirects are core functionality. Based on my experience with its stability and reliability, I cannot recommend it and am now looking for an alternative.
