A 30-year-old father was shot by an off-duty security guard and killed outside a school while waiting to pick up his Grade 3 child in Teresa, Rizal. 

On Thursday afternoon (July 16, 2026), the victim went to the school in Barangay Prinza to fetch his child after classes. However, a school security guard was reportedly on leave from work has another plan. 

Investigators said the suspect allegedly shot the victim at close range in the head before quickly escaping on a motorcycle. The victim died on the spot and was found lying near the school gate. 

The incident happened in front of several people, including the victim’s wife, who was carrying a young child when the shooting took place. Witnesses described the scene as shocking and painful, with many struggling to understand how the violence unfolded so suddenly. 

A school security guard who was on duty at the time said he heard a gunshot and saw the victim collapse. He shared that everything appeared normal before the attack. 

Police investigations revealed that the victim and the suspect had a disagreement the previous week after the security guard reportedly confronted the victim regarding entry into the school premises.

Family members said the two had already settled their misunderstanding, and the suspect had even apologized. Because of this, they were caught off guard by the deadly attack. 

“Paghatid po nung anak niya sa school, nakipagbatian po ‘yung lalaki na namaril. Nakipagbati na, nakipag-kamay na, humingi ng pasensya ‘yung lalaki. Okay na po, pinatawad ng kapatid ko. Parang tinraydor siya eh. ‘Yun na po ‘yung nangyari dun eh,” the victim’s sibling said. 

The shooting also affected students who witnessed the incident. To ensure their safety and well-being, barangay officials immediately responded and helped move the children away from the area.

Classes were temporarily shifted to modular learning while the situation was being addressed. 

Authorities are now conducting CCTV backtracking and a hot pursuit operation to locate and arrest the suspect. Meanwhile, the victim’s family continues to seek justice as they prepare to bring his remains to Polillo Island in Quezon, where he will be laid to rest.
