With the word coming from Vehicle Corvette Chief Engineer Josh Holder that the 2027 Grand Sport and Grand Sport X represents the completion of the C8 Corvette model lineup, attention is starting to focus on what comes next for the Corvette.

While we may have originally been looking at the sports car moving to an EV platform, luckily it appears that bad idea has pushed back and we’ll see the next generation of Corvettes powered by traditional pushrod V8s. In fact, we believe one really positive aspect of the C9 has already arrived in the form of the 409ci LS6. The new LS6 – introduced this year for the Corvette Stingray and Grand Sport – will most likely serve as the powertrain bridge to the C9 Corvette at least for its base model.

Now MotorTrend is taking a closer look at what the C9 might look like and they say the biggest changes will be visual with their sources telling them it will be heavily influenced by GM’s Advance Design Studio’s Corvette CX Concept car. The C9 version will be softer and more refined than what we saw when the two concepts – The Corvette CX and the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo – were revealed at The Quail event during last year’s Monterey Car Week.

Indeed, we’ve already seen some digital artists create renderings of the CX Concept fitted onto the C8’s aluminum frame and the results are pretty stunning.

MotorTrend is saying the C9 Corvette will make its debut in 2029 as a 2030 model. That model will be the base Stingray and then Chevrolet will follow through with its higher performance models that includes Z06, ZR1, & Grand Sport as the generation moves forward.

Over the years, Chevrolet has introduced a variety of high-performance sports cars powered by a number of various power plants ranging from naturally aspirated V8s, to those vehicles that have been supercharged, turbocharged, or featured a hybrid power-assisted all-wheel drive. So, it’s no telling what kind of advancements we’ll see during the C9 generation now that engineers have the experience and familiarity with all these technologies.

As for when the cars do go on sale, we’re probably a far cry from them extreme affordability that was the hallmark of the 1st year C8s that went on sale in early 2020 and started at $59,995, Today’s base Stingray is approximately $73,495 and while it’s really too early to predict the starting prices for these next generation models, MotorTrend expects a starting price for the base C9 to start at $78,000 while a “King of the Hill” C9 could go for $220,000.

With the talk of the C9 Corvette now entering the conversation, it’s time to start the next savings account targeting the Summer of 2029 and the reveal of the C9 Corvette. But don’t wait until then to get on your favorite dealer’s list while you still can.
