Comment on [VIDEO] ARC Driver: The 2027 Corvette Stingray is the Greatest Performance Bargain in Automotive History by IPD

"GM could charge double the price, and it would still be a great deal".
Well then I'm going to disagree with the assessment that the other C8's aren't worth it--especially the GSX/ER. At less than double the base MSRP, you get AWD and even more unholy performance, with several SIGNIFICANT upgrades (including CCB's).
I do agree that the Z06 is overpriced for what you get. It's always been a 40k engine-only upgrade (32,900 over base GS MSRP--but you also aren't getting the LS6). Worth it if the auditory ecstasy matters to you. Not worth it from every other practical aspect. Engineering be damned. There's a lot of cool engineering in a Spyker C8 or a TVR Sagaris--but that doesn't make them a value proposition. ZR1 is faster and more capable; ER (now GSX) is more competent and useable in more situations. And now that the GSX has 51 more HP and 205 more torque--paying more for less...is TRULY only an irrational decision justified only by love.
The SR might be the "overall best value" based on price and performance. But the comparison becomes far more stark when you compare where an AWD C8 lines up against AWD performance competition. And that puts it on the same footing with the SR--in comparison to performance/cost vs the competition.
Corvette has always been a solid value compared to performance contemporaries. It's just a lot more stark with the M/R configuration in the C8.

With the arrival of both the Grand Sport and Grand Sport X to the Corvette line up, we have done our best to focus on the latest models which Chevrolet has boldly proclaimed as occupying the sweet spot of C8 Corvettes. That may be true, but the real news about the current model year is the performance bargain that is the 2027 Corvette Stingray.

Indeed, Chevrolet made huge waves when they announced late last month that the Stingray with its refreshed 6.7-liter naturally aspirated LS6 V8 is capable of 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and it now has a top speed that is over 200 mph! As the host of ARC Driver suggests, these are the specs of a multi-million dollar super car, not a base sports car that costs $73,000.

In this new video from ARC Driver, he calls the 2027 Corvette Stingray the best performance bargain out there and offers comparisons to key rivals, pricey exotics with similar performance, and he even compares it to other C8 models:

“GM cranked up the base model so high it’s like this car just came out of nowhere? And I never thought I’d say this but, given the price for performance ratio, is there even a reason to purchase a Corvette other than the Stingray?

The three cars he picks as rivals includes those from Toyota (Supra), BMW (M2), and the Ford Mustang Dark Horse. All three of which are slower for around the same price. But it’s the comparisons with the exotics with similar performance that will make you lean into the screen and pump your fist. That list includes:

  • Ferrari 296 GTB Speciale: ($500K) — matches Stingray’s 0–60 and top speed but costs ~7x more
  • McLaren 750S: ($365K) — slightly faster but far pricier and depreciates hard
  • Mercedes-AMG GT: (~$200K, 0–60 in 2.7s) — 2.7x the price
  • Porsche 911 GTS Hybrid: ($181K): 0–60 in 2.9s, 194 mph — slower and ~2.5x the price
  • Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC: ($108K, 795 hp) – top speed specs still undisclosed

As for the other Corvettes, he calls the upgrade to the Grand Sport as being “worth it” while also saying the Z06 is “Not a good value” for paying $34,000 more for the 135 hp. However, we know the Z06 has other intrinsic qualities that cause people to gravitate to that model. As for the ZR1 and ZR1X, they are obviously the ones to have if money is no object and you can find one available. That leaves the Stingray as being “the best performance car for the money,” and possibly “the greatest performance bargain in automotive history.”

Is the 200-mph 2027 Corvette Stingray the wake up call for manufacturers of high performance sports cars? We’ll let history be the judge of that.
