35 Years Later, Cult Classic 'The Last Boy Scout' Looks Perfect in Arrow's 4K Release

As The Last Boys Scout's place in the pantheon of cult classics has grown more formidable in recent years, so have the calls from fans for a proper restoration. Finally, Arrow Video has answered the call, as The Last Boy Scout is set to arrive on 4K UHD for the very first time in October. 'The Last Boy Scout' Coming to 4K

Arrow's newly-restored version of The Last Boy Scout is set to be released on October 13th, with 4K and standard Blu-ray editions available. Arrow restored the film from the original 35mm camera negative, and the final product was approved by director of photography Ward Russell. The 4K UHD is presented in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible), with audio options that include a restoration of the original lossless audio track and Dolby Atmos.

Like most Arrow editions, 4K UHD release of The Last Boy Scout is packed with new and archival special features, allowing fans of the movie to dig deep into its production and history. The features include a brand-new commentary with film critics Josh Nelson and Martyn Pedler, a new interview with screenwriter Shane Black, a new interview with actress Danielle Harris, a new feature on the filmography of Tony Scott, and a handful of deleted and alternate scenes. The limited edition of The Last Boy Scout 4K also comes with new art from Sam Hadley, the original Shane Black screenplay, and a collector's booklet with new writings on the film from several prominent critics.

What Is 'The Last Boy Scout' About?

For those who haven't seen The Last Boy Scout before, it's a buddy cop action-comedy from 1991 that stars Bruce Willis as Joe Hallenbeck, a disgraced former Secret Service agent who now works as a private eye. Damon Wayans co-stars as former professional football quarterback Jimmy Dix, who gets roped into a political conspiracy alongside Joe, and the two have to work together to uncover secrets and survive long enough to reveal the truth. The film also stars Halle Berry, Noble Willingham, Chelsea Field, Taylor Negron, and Danielle Harris.

The Last Boy Scout obviously features an all-star lineup of talent in front of the camera, but its roster of creative talent is even more impressive. The Last Boy Scout was directed by the late Tony Scott, who also helmed the likes of Top Gun, Days of Thunder, True Romance, Man on Fire, and Crimson Tide. The script came from Shane Black, a wildly popular writer-turned-director who was behind titles like Lethal Weapon, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Iron Man 3, and The Nice Guys.
