Tinley Park venue hopes to hold concert after storms cause roof damage

Officials in suburban Tinley Park are hoping to go ahead with a weekend concert at Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre after severe weather damaged the venue’s roof.
NBC’s Sky 5 helicopter flew over the venue after a powerful derecho swept through the Chicago area on Tuesday morning, bringing damaging wind gusts and multiple tornadoes to the region.

The venue suffered roof damage, with materials strewn across the lawn and other parts of the complex in the wake of the storms.
Still, officials there are hoping they can proceed with a concert on Saturday, with Lynyrd Skynyrd scheduled to hit the stage.
“The team at Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre is actively working to make repairs to the roof,” the venue said in a release on Facebook. “We currently plan to proceed with Saturday’s show as scheduled. Ticket holders will be notified directly of any updates via email and text.”
During Tuesday’s derecho, Tinley Park was struck by an EF-1 tornado that originated in Will County and traveled more than 25 miles into northwest Indiana.
The tornado, which packed wind speeds of around 95 miles per hour, caused damage to numerous structures along 183rd Street in Tinley Park, was accompanied by straight-line wind speeds of nearly 100 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.
The tornado eventually crossed through Country Club Hills and Flossmoor before dissipating in Lake County, Indiana.
The Tinley Park area has been hit multiple times by severe weather in recent weeks, with more than 1,200 structures damaged in Tuesday’s storms according to NBC Chicago’s Vi Nguyen.
