ASHLAND, VA — A Hanover County man’s daily lottery routine turned into a $106,500 payday after his favorite Pick 4 numbers were drawn in a Virginia Lottery night drawing.
The anonymous player won the prize in the Monday, June 30, Pick 4 Night drawing by playing the combination 7-5-2-4 on 24 separate wagers.
According to the Virginia Lottery, the winner placed six 50/50 wagers and 18 exact-order wagers on the same four-number combination.
When 7-5-2-4 was drawn, each of the six 50/50 plays paid $2,600, while each of the 18 exact-order plays paid $5,000.
His total winnings came to $106,500.
The winning plays were purchased at the Fas Mart located at 10030 Sliding Hill Road in Ashland.
When he checked the drawing results, the winner told Virginia Lottery officials, “I had to clear my eyes. I had to make sure I saw it right!”
Asked what he plans to do with the money, the winner said he’d “maybe have some fun!”
Virginia law allows Lottery winners to remain anonymous, and the Lottery did not release his identity.
Pick 4 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11 p.m. The top prize on a $1 exact-order play is $5,000, and the odds of matching all four numbers in exact order are 1 in 10,000.
