Grundy County’s annual property tax rate public hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Aug. 25 in the commissioners’ room on the second floor of the Grundy County Courthouse in Trenton.

The hearing notice lists a proposed levy of 21.88 cents per $100 of assessed valuation following the sales tax rollback. Grundy County’s tax rate ceiling is 39 cents. The proposed rate is 2 cents higher than the county’s rate last year.

The county’s total assessed valuation is $161,127,936, an increase of $5,330,514 from the 2025 valuation of $155,797,422.

The valuation includes real estate, personal property, and railroad and utility property. Assessed values increased in each category compared with the previous year, with the largest increase recorded in the railroad and utility category.

Grundy County commissioners met Tuesday morning with Shannon Howe of Howe Engineering to review potential cost-sharing opportunities with the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Among the projects discussed were proposed improvements to the intersection of Highway 65 and 20th Street south of Trenton. The road extends east to Pleasant View R-6 School.

The intersection project has been placed on MoDOT’s unfunded needs list, indicating the department would like to make improvements but must wait until state and federal transportation funding becomes available. Grundy County would commit a portion of the project’s funding through a cost-sharing arrangement with the state.

Presiding Commissioner Philip Ray reported that several storm-damage sites have been reviewed for possible inclusion in an application to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for federal assistance. The potential funding is related to Grundy County’s recovery from storms that occurred during the June portion of the disaster declaration.

Each township and municipality with storm-damaged infrastructure also is expected to submit an application for assistance.

Grundy County commissioners traveled to Milan last week to attend a FEMA briefing covering the application process and required documentation.

The county is also seeking bids again for repairs to hail-damaged roofs at the Grundy County Courthouse, the prosecuting attorney’s office, and a garage used for storage.
