>>> Updated 11:25 AM CDT to show that officebss will still post Mondays. I had originally said she would end those too. <<<

There is an essential requirement for diarists to claim the MOT diary slots for Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, no later than the beginning of September. Because the current diarists (Ozarkblue and officebss) are attaining age categories where they need to be pragmatic about making future commitments. So they will no longer publish diaries after August, and will cede earlier to someone who has claimed their dates before then. Their decisions are not due to problems with the new system, they are solely related to age and health status.

Details: This needs to be a serial commitment, not just one date. I.e., something like ‘I’ll take Thursdays’. For each date, compose and schedule a diary for 5:30 AM Central Time. You can compose and schedule before the publication date. In theory, you do not need to be viewing the site at publication time, but we have found such to be prudent, due to oddities with the new system.

It is necessary to cite ‘MOTs’ as a ’publish group’, so that followers get notified. You need to be a member of the MOT group to cite them, I can add you if needed. It is customary to select ’MOTs’ and ’MorningOpenThread’ as ’tags’. A handy place to do this is during the selection of a ’title image’.

Common topics are poetry, music, or historical items, but a ’blank slate’ diary would suffice as well. The main goal is to have a diary each of your days. An unwritten standard is: avoid topics that are pure politics, and especially those involving the orange slobbo. There are plenty of other diaries of that nature.

To request a slot(s), contact officebss. The best way to contact is by KOSmail, but officebss has some difficulties with messaging, so may have to use MOT comments for replies.

Welcome to Morning Open Thread. On Thursdays, I will continue the tradition of a theme.

But the theme is very expandable, in whatever clever ways you devise to do that! And there are no demerits for straying from the theme.

Also, if you have a suggestion for a Thursday theme, send a message to me. (I might miss a suggestion buried in the string of comments.)

thanks! to all the folks who join the thread.

==========================

To Each His Own” is a popular song written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans. It is the title song of the movie of the same name and was published in 1946.

1946 was the first full year in which Billboard ran its three main popular charts, “Best Selling”, “Most Played Jukebox”, and “Most Air Play”.

Each week in each section, 15 points were awarded for No. 1, 9 points for No. 2, 8 points for No. 3, and so on. There were no ties. The totals of all three categories were combined, and the highest numbers won.

Eddy Howard’s version of “To Each His Own” was the no. 1 record of the year, leading the runner-up by more than 100 points.

===========================

Everyday” is a song recorded by Buddy Holly and The Crickets, released on September 20, 1957, as the B-side of “Peggy Sue”.

“Everyday” was recorded on May 29, 1957, at the Norman Petty recording studio in Clovis, New Mexico. The recording is renowned for its innovative and minimalist instrumentation, which contributed to the signature “Clovis Sound”. The distinctive, bell-like melody was played on a celesta by Vi Petty, the wife of producer Norman Petty.

In a departure from standard recording practices, drummer Jerry Allison did not use a drum kit; instead, he provided the song’s rhythmic foundation by slapping his hands against his knees throughout the take. To achieve a more intimate and muffled vocal texture, legend suggests that Holly’s vocals were recorded through a cardboard tube, a technique reflecting Norman Petty’s creative engineering and use of echo chamber effects.
