Manuel Borges renewed his scholarship for another academic year....
Manuel Borges, a master’s student in civil engineering, has successfully renewed the Engineer Carlos Morais Scholarship. The renewal ceremony took place on 27 September in the Civil Engineering Museum at Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa.
“Although Ms. Etelvina Cristovão (the patron) cannot be here today, I want to express my gratitude for the opportunity to receive this scholarship for another year, which honours Engineer Carlos Morais”, said Manuel Borges. The student noted that this financial support not only alleviates financial stress but also serves as additional “motivation” to focus on his studies, positively impacting his academic progress.
Francisco Melo, Vice President of Técnico for Academic Affairs, congratulated the student on renewing his scholarship, emphasising the importance of witnessing the tangible outcomes of this support. “I am very happy to hear that last year was a success. It’s always encouraging to hear these success stories from a ‘family’ connected to Técnico”, he said.
Luís Calado, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment, also highlighted the importance of the initiative. “These scholarships are extremely important for students, as they provide additional support and act as an incentive. They also acknowledge the contributions of our alumni who wish to assist new students in their education” he said, wishing Manuel Borges “all the best” for his future endeavors.
Represented by Etelvina Cristóvão, the Carlos Morais Engineer Scholarship was established in 2026 to support civil engineering students and honours Carlos Morais, a Técnico alumnus and member of the Students’ Union.
This initiative is part of over 20 patron-funded scholarships to support undergraduate and master’s students at Técnico.
