ASK ANY LOMPOC LOVER… to identify the most eye-catching and colorful sights that are synonymous with the Santa Barbara County town and they might be temporarily flummoxed. The city is known for its sizable and splendid murals, the free-to-see outdoor artworks that have grandly multiplied around the city since the beginning of the 1990s. But if you’re swinging through the area in the later part of spring and summertime, you may be bewitched by another Lompoc hallmark: Blossoms, a bounty of them, as in the cultivated sweet peas and larkspurs and other flowers that are grown in the area. While entering these flowery fields is not permitted, flower fans do like to follow a map, one that will take them past some of these petal-packed places. Not all of the fields may be blooming during your visit, but finding flowers during the warm months can and does happen during a Lompoc spring/summer escapade.
HONORING THE FIELDS: The town has a lengthy relationship with its surrounding fields, and that is evident in the annual return of the long-running Lompoc Valley Flower Festival. The 73rd festival will pop in Ryon Memorial Park from June 25 through 28, with live music, flowery floats, and other diversions that pay homage to the petal-y stars. The 2026 event has an America250 theme, so plenty of red, white, and blue blossoms, and decorations, will add to the patriotic atmosphere. Also upping the uplifting vibe? Carnival attractions, food vendors, and more. Check the festival schedule if you plan to visit or study the map and plot your next colorful course to some of California’s best-known Flower Fields.
