A person went on a rampage at an east Las Vegas shopping complex Friday, attempting to stab a person in front of a grocery store and then using a vehicle to repeatedly ram a nearby ambulance, police said.

The Metropolitan Police Department said they were called just after 11:40 a.m. to the shopping center in the 4900 block of East Sahara Avenue at Nellis Boulevard.

“The suspect exited a vehicle and attempted to stab an individual in a business parking lot,” police said in an email. “The individual was able to safely get away from the suspect.”

Police did not identify the business, but a Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter observed crime scene tape stretched around a portion of the parking lot in front of a Smith’s grocery store.

The suspect then got back into the vehicle and drove to another area of the complex parking lot where they “rammed a parked ambulance, multiple times,” police said.

The Review-Journal observed an ambulance in the same parking lot, in front of a Bank of America outlet, with front-end damage. The bank was closed with security personnel standing in front of it.

“Officers arrived and were able to take the individual into custody with the use of an electronic control device,” police said. “No injuries have been reported.”
