Functionally speaking, the new big feature at the massive Suffolk Downs redevelopment is a catch basin to collect water during storms. But that’s not what people will see.
Residents, nearby neighbors and others will see a stepped landscaped amphitheater with a capacity for 600 people. It just happens to be in a place designed to flood whenever necessary so that water doesn’t instead back up into the newly built buildings.

Suffolk Downs has a new outdoor performance space. It doubles as a stormwater management system and a catch basin capable of holding millions of gallons of water.
Functionally speaking, the new big feature at the massive Suffolk Downs redevelopment is a catch basin to collect water during storms. But that’s not what people will see.
Residents, nearby neighbors and others will see a stepped landscaped amphitheater with a capacity for 600 people. It just happens to be in a place designed to flood whenever necessary so that water doesn’t instead back up into the newly built buildings.
