A person was taken to the hospital after they were allegedly assaulted by a rideshare driver on the way to Boston Logan International Airport early Friday morning, police said.
The passenger in a rideshare vehicle entered Terminal C just before 5:30 a.m. and reported that they had been physically assaulted by their driver prior to being dropped off, according to Massachusetts State Police.
After the passenger got out of the vehicle, the rideshare driver left the scene, according to police, who said vehicle information was distributed to surrounding law enforcement agencies through a Be On the Lookout bulletin.
The victim was taken to a Boston-area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police added.
Details on the vehicle haven’t been publicly shared, and police didn’t immediately share any other information, including what led up to the incident. Nobody was charged in the case as of Friday evening, and people involved haven’t been publicly identified.
NBC10 Boston video from the scene shows yellow police tape sectioning off a portion of the sidewalk just outside the airport arrival doors with at least two police vehicles parked nearby.
NBC10 Boston tracked down a woman, who didn’t want to be identified, who said investigators showed up at her home looking for her son in connecting to the case. She said they got him on the phone, but he hung up.
In a statement, Uber said they’ve checked in with the rider and removed the driver’s access to their rideshare platform.
“We are horrified by this reported violence,” a representative for the company said in a statement, adding, “Our specialized team has been in touch with law enforcement, and we will continue to do whatever we can to support their investigation.”
