Bicyclist who worked for the city dies after being struck by vehicle in Boston

Дата публикации: 09-07-2026 08:59:27

A bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle on Tremont Street in Boston on Thursday morning, police said.
The woman worked for the city, Mayor Michelle Wu confirmed, identifying her as Louisa Gag, who worked to make streets and the city safer for all.
“Louisa led programs and improvements that made our streets safer, our communities stronger, and our residents’ daily lives better. Her legacy will endure in the work she advanced across the City, and in the commitment of her colleagues, friends, and fellow advocates to carry it forward,” Wu said in a statement.
The crash occurred around 8:19 a.m. on Tremont Street near Parker Street. Boston police said, citing preliminary information, that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the vehicle involved stopped. Police said the bicyclist was headed toward Columbus Avenue when she were struck by a moving vehicle.
Tremont Street was temporarily closed in both directions between Brigham Circle and Roxbury Crossing, but reopened around noon.
Gag used to work for Wu when she was a Boston city councilor, where she “quickly became a trusted colleague and partner,” Wu said, adding, “I am absolutely devastated by this unfathomable loss for our community and our City. I will miss her terribly.”
Residents who live in the area say the intersection is extremely busy at all times.
“We lost one life over there with no reason,” said Josefina Otero, a Mission Hill resident.
“People don’t pay attention to the lights, I’ll tell you that,” said Tamica McKinney, who works in the area. “And on this intersection right here you have to proceed with caution no matter what.”
“It doesn’t surprise me because of how crazy this intersection is, but it’s super unfortunate,” another person said.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are encouraging anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
