ITV viewers have been stunned after Love Island star Lorenzo's family exposed the real reason he refused to make coffees.
Despite being a viewer favourite, Lorenzo previously came under fire after letting slip a bizarre rule that he has been following on the show. After bringing Julia Majchrzak back from Casa Amor, the two have been getting closer every day.
However, Julia has expressed a disappointment with a lack of "small gestures" from Lorenzo during the day time, particularly when it comes to making her a morning coffee.
The girls usually have a coffee made and brought to them by the boy that is interested in them, but Julia was the only one to not have one made - a point she expressed was hurtful to her.
Defending his actions, Lorenzo confirmed there would be "no coffee before love", before admitting his one bizarre rule. He said: "I can only make things with pure love."
Lorenzo went on to say he made a "promise" to himself that he would not make a coffee, but ultimately, viewers saw him making Julia her morning drink - which stunned fans at home.
Now, speaking on Aftersun, Lorenzo's family have revealed the real reason he refused to make a coffee. Lorenzo's mum admitted: "It's my fault."
She continued: "He's been watching this since he was a kid with me; it's my favourite programme, I watch it every year. And he's always been like, 'I've never ever seen a girl make a coffee for a guy.'
"It irritated him a little bit, not because he's lazy because he always makes me a tea and coffee, cleans the house, he's very good like that."
She continued Lorenzo was "very domesticated", adding: "To wind me up he said, 'I promise you, I'm not going to make anyone a coffee'. He said it the other day: 'I made a promise' - that promise was to me."
However, regretting the promise her son had made, she went on to say: "That stupid little promise to me... It's a family joke now. If I could phone in, two seconds, I'd tell him make the b***** coffee."
Viewers were divided with the promise as one person wrote: "Sorry mum but why would you let him make a promise so misogynistic like that - a man should make a woman a coffee. Women do so much to get ready every day and men sit around."
Another penned: "Julia and Lorenzo are so meant to be." A third said: "I can actually understand Lorenzo for that, I thought it was odd at first that he didn’t want to make a coffee but I actually get that logic. The girls can make the guys coffee too."
A fourth agreed: "It’s true. They don’t make men a coffee either. Good on Lorenzo." A fifth added: "They all should be making each other coffee… healthy relationships are a partnership. It goes both ways."
Love Island airs Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX
