Mum-of-two Lauren Goodger, whose second daughter Lorena passed away moments after birth four years ago, wants to expand her family and give her eldest daughter Larose, five, a sibling.
“If I don’t get into another relationship, then why not,” she says of using a sperm donor or going down the adoption route. “I’m on my own now with Larose anyway, I’d find it easier than having to deal with a man. Maybe that’s a good option to think about, but it’s not on the cards yet.”
TOWIE star Lauren, 39, is talking to us about her new book Mum Of Two: Love, Loss And My Life On TOWIE , a poignant and powerful memoir about her experience of motherhood and the trauma she experienced losing Lorena, after a harrowing labour.
It is, at times, a difficult read as Lauren details the birth of her late daughter and the aftermath of dealing with her overwhelming grief. She tells us it was tough putting pen to paper and reliving the trauma she’s been through.
“It was so hard,” she says. “I don’t really think of the past and that’s how I deal with things. But at the same time it made me realise, ‘How did I get through that?’ I’m still in fight or flight, I’m still healing and heartbroken. It’s changed me as a person. It did affect me physically, mentally and emotionally. Lauren’s never going to be old Lauren again, because I’ve changed.”
Lauren heartbreakingly reveals she has lost two more babies since Lorena, in 2023 and 2024, all with her former partner, builder Charles Drury.
“I’ve never spoken about it, because it’s personal,” she tells us. “I wasn’t far gone at all, but it wasn’t meant to be. I feel like my body couldn’t have held a baby because I was so ill – scared of everything, full of anxiety and my sleep was terrible. I was in complete fight or flight constantly. The only thing I bossed was being a mum to Larose. I showed up every single day and we’ve got a lovely bond.”
The Essex girl has had many loves and losses, including the sudden death of her ex-boyfriend Jake McLean. Jake tragically passed away aged 33 after a car crash in Turkey, days before Lorena’s birth. Though Lauren wasn’t with Jake at the time of his death [they had been on and off since they started a relationship in 2012] it’s fair to say she still feels a connection to him.
“He’s in my dreams constantly,” she says. “We did so much together, we’ve got loads of memories. We went to Paris and we had a padlock on a bridge with our names on – it’s still there. He was a big part of me and I do believe [if he was still around] he’d have met Larose.”
“He should’ve come back to me and settled,” she says. “I still speak to his mum and his sister and they said, ‘We wish you had a baby with him.’ I do think there was some sort of future. It was unfinished business with us.”
Lauren also revisits some memories of her relationship with her first love, teenage sweetheart and TOWIE co-star Mark Wright, who she was with from the age of 15. Because of her troubled childhood and her difficult relationship with her parents, she said Mark “really saved” her in those adolescent years.
They have both moved on since they eventually split in 2012. He is now married to actress Michelle Keegan, who Lauren says she has “always been compared to”.
“I’m very happy for him, I’m so glad he’s now a dad,” she tells us. “It’s unfortunate that our lives have moved on in different directions, but if we bumped into them I’d say hello.”
Lauren is embracing single life and working on herself until she feels ready to meet someone new. She tells us she’s lost over a stone and a half and feels she’s on “the right path where I can feel sexy again”.
In terms of co-parenting with ex Charles, it’s a work in progress. “I’ve got to care for Charlie, because he’s Larose’s dad,” she explains. “I think we’re on completely different pages, but we’re trying to make it work. We’re not in a relationship, I just want to get on for Larose’s sake. It’s taken a long time to get to this point, where I’m free. When I lost Lorena, I wanted Charlie for a long time. I couldn’t let go of it. I couldn’t understand how I’d lost my relationship and my baby.”
Looking ahead to the future, as well as her body overhaul and making time for some self-care, Lauren would love to revisit her hobby of singing.
“I’m going to get some singing lessons – not for a single or a career in it, just a hobby. It makes me feel good. I used to go to theatre school and I went on The X Factor when I was 18 and I just don’t sing any more. I want to start!”
