Goals from Joe Ward and Bobby Clark ensured Derby County kicked off their pre-season campaign with a victory against non-league Alfreton Town.
Head coach John Eustace named a strong first XI at the Impact Arena and Derby's quality proved too much for the non-league side who are managed by Derby favourite Jake Buxton.
Ward opened the scoring when Ryan Hedges, who is training with Derby after his exit from Blackburn, teased a delicious cross to the back post from which the winger buried a header into the net.
The lead was doubled when Hedges found Carlton Morris whose clever ball around the corner picked out the run of Bobby Clark who applied a cool finish.
The only downside to the first half was an injury to Hedges as he appeared to jar his ankle when attempting to bring the ball under control in the first half.
Eustace sent out a completely different team in the second half which contained a smattering of the first-team squad with Lars-Jorgen Salvesen and Kenzo Goudmijn among them.
Derby's goal was under little threat but Richard O'Donnell did make a terrific save to deny Charlie Finney before Salvesen was denied at the other end.
Josh Vickers: In goal due to Jacob Widell Zetterstrom being given extended leave due to the World Cup. The former Lincoln City goalkeeper never had a shot to save.
Max Johnston: Had a couple of powerful charges down the right-hand side and dovetailed well with Joe Ward on occasion. Will be pleased to have put his injury woes of last season behind him.
Dion Sanderson: Cruised through the first half and never gave Alfreton a sniff on what was a difficult pitch for both sets of players given how dry and firm it was.
Matt Clarke: Like his defensive partner, the reigning player of the season barely put a foot wrong as Derby didn't surrender any chances whatsoever.
Craig Forsyth: The long-serving Scot had a very steady game at full-back and linked up well with Ryan Hedges. Hard to recall him ever being tested down his side.
Lewis Travis: Attempted one flick that gave possession away which drew a few groans, but other than that, he had a solid game and had a shot blocked inside the first couple of minutes.
Oscar Fraulo: Had a header in the first half that sailed over the bar and he played the game with simplicity rather than try any Hollwood flicks and tricks.
Ryan Hedges: Had an excellent first half but suffered a blow when he seemed to just pick up a niggle when going to control a ball in the centre circle. Cross for Ward's goal was a beauty.
Bobby Clark: Produced some moments of real quality epitomised by the goal which saw hk slide a shot into the far corner. Such a good signing.
Joe Ward: Scored a superb header having started the game out on the wing. Produced a good cross that led to a good chance for Morris who was denied by a superb save.
Carlton Morris: Really bright in the first half and his pass found the run of Clark who made no mistake with the finish. Leads the line so well.
Second half
Richard O'Donnell: Like Vickers, the only thing he caught for the opening 20 minutes of the second half was a suntan given the lack of threat he faced. Had to keep his wits about him with a good save after the hydration break.
Rio Canoville: Had claims for a penalty in the second half that were completely ignored by the referee. Played at right-back and put himself about.
Adisa Osayande: Young centre-back was strong in the air and didn't really put a foot wrong as they protected Richard O'Donnell from having a shot to save.
Luca Crolla: The centre-back had to handle a couple of tricky passes and he made one superb challenge midway through the second half. Suffered a nasty blow to the head.
Tristan Gill: Derby sent out a completely different team for the second half and the left-back had a sound game.
Kenzo Goudmijn: The Dutchman is back after his loan with Go Ahead Eagles last season. Hard to see him forcing his way into the starting XI, but the runout will have kept him ticking over.
Liam Thompson: Made one driving run in the second half which nearly brought a chance for Lars-Jorgen Salvesen who was flagged offside.
Dajaune Brown: Played on the right wing in the second half which isn't his position as he's a centre forward by trade. But credit to him. He caught the eye with a couple of neat touches.
Owen Eames: Derby have high hopes for the academy graduate and he played just behind Salvesen as the number 10. Skied one effort over the bar.
Charlie Smith: The main source of Derby's forward play came down the right-hand side which meant there were quiet periods for the youngster. Did fine.
Lars-Jorgen Salvesen: Had a cross that was sliced over the bar in the second half and there was one moment when he was denied by the linesman's flag.
Talking point: Ryan Hedges is just training with Derby after his release from Blackburn, but the winger certainly made an impact with a glorious cross for the opening goal. He was also involved for the second until an injury to his ankle forced him off towards the end of the first half which is a concern given he is expected to travel to Austria. Derby's need for wingers is abundantly clear and they've got to get their skates on as there are some gaps to fill.
