Newcastle United have had German teenager Karim Coulibaly put to them during the current transfer window - but the timing for the Werder Bremen youngster and the Magpies does not seem right.

With a limited budget and SCR rules to comply with, a left-sided centre-back is not at the top of sporting director Ross Wilson's wish-list at the moment.

A right-back and a young forward may be next on the hit-list for Newcastle after completing the £35m deal for Monaco youngster Aladji Bamba.

Coulibaly has been looked at closely by Newcastle and has been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United in the current window.

But he also comes with a £42m price tag and as Newcastle look to fill other specialist positions, he is not currently in the thinking for this window.

The Magpies have plenty of competition on the left-hand side of their defensive rearguard with Dan Burn and Sven Botman set to slug it out in the heart of defence and Lewis Hall in possession of the No 3 shirt.

The left-footed teenager has a contract at Werder until 2029 and could yet remain in Germany for another season. If he does Newcastle will keep tabs on the star ahead of future windows.

Newcastle backroom member to leave?

The Magpies could be saying farewell to club psychologist Dr Ian Mitchell after three years on Tyneside.

The former Football Association of Wales, known as "Mitch" behind the scenes, is a popular figure at the KNOX and has never been one to push boundaries at Newcastle.

After working with England at Euro 2020, it was assumed by some that Dr Mitchell would have a hands-on role, but his presence at the training ground has always been more of an open-door policy for those who need support.

Our sister website Wales Online are reporting he is the early favourite for a post with the Welsh rugby union side, which could spark another backroom departure this summer.

Newcastle are already saying goodbye to Dr Paul Catterson after he served the club since 2009.

United to keep Keegan shrine open for a few more days

Newcastle chiefs have been blown away by the love shown for Kevin Keegan in the days since his passing.

Floral tributes have grown in great numbers since Monday and the tribute site has been well attended by fans left in mourning by Keegan's death.

The club have now released the following guidelines: "The thousands of tributes left in memory of Kevin Keegan at St. James' Park have been a moving reminder of what he meant to this club, this city and the wider football community.

"Thank you to everyone who has visited to pay their respects.

"Club staff will begin carefully gathering floral tributes and items left in Kevin’s memory from Tuesday, 28th July, enabling people to visit and leave items until late on Monday.

"Flowers will be processed in a respectful and environmentally responsible way, including being recycled into high quality soil conditioner that will be used on the club’s Academy pitches.

"We know many of you have also left shirts and scarves among the tributes.

"We're working with our Fan Advisory Board on potential options, and we'll share more on this in due course.

"Finally, we'd kindly ask supporters not to leave alcohol among the tributes to help keep the site safe for everyone. "The book of condolence will remain open for supporters at the club’s Box Office, which is open 8am – 8pm.

"Thank you, as ever, for the love you've shown Kevin and his family this week."
