Ask 10 Newcastle United fans what their next transfer priority should be and you'll likely get 10 different answers . . . which shows the work still needed to be done in the summer window.

The Magpies want to bring more new signings to the club before deadline day on September 1 in what is set to be a crucial period on Tyneside.

With Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure and Sean Steur already signed, and midfielder Aladji Bamba set to join in the coming days, the focus is now on the key areas of the squad which need the most work, although nailing those down is easier said than done.

A first-team goalkeeper is high on the agenda, while United only have Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall as first-team full-backs as things stand.

Goalscoring remains a big concern, plus there's the small matter of midfield, with Sandro Tonali having left and interest in Joe Willock. . . not to mention captain Bruno Guimaraes.

When it comes to transfer priority, you could argue there is no pressing need, with the season kick-off still a month away.

However the dilemma facing Newcastle is perfectly illustrated by the response we received when we asked what the next transfer priority should be.

With central defence unlikely to feature highly, we set the options at goalkeeper, full-back, midfield, wingers and strikers, and the answers paints its own picture.

While most replied before Bamba's arrival, the split across four of the areas of the pitch shows how much work United have to do.

Only the wide positions fall down the pecking order, with striker just edging ahead with 28 per cent of the vote.

Full-backs and midfield were tied on 23 per cent, just ahead of a goalkeeper on 21 per cent.

In other words, all four positions please. Bamba's arrival will go some way to addressing the midfield issues, but that could change if Bruno or Willock departs.

Newcastle are still hopeful of making more new signings, although have moved away from interest in Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford.

He is said to be ready to move to Leeds United, with Newcastle targetting more affordable options.
