The stock of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LICI) (₹421.30) has been moving between ₹370 and ₹470 for quite some time. Clear trend will emerge only on a break out of this band. Yet, in the short term, we expect the stock to move in the tight band with an upward bias.

Though LIC is yet to announce its board meeting date for considering quarterly results, it is likely to be in the second week of August. The volatility might shoot up post the announcement of results. 

F&O pointers: LICI July futures closed at ₹422.50 and August futures at ₹416.45 against the spot close of ₹421.30. As of now, LICI futures witnessed a rollover of 58 per cent to August month. Option trading signals that the stock could move between ₹400 and ₹450.

Strategy: Go long on LIC August futures while keeping an initial stop-loss at ₹400. The stop-loss can be shifted to ₹415 if the futures opens on a positive note. Traders can aim for a target of ₹445.

Also, traders can stay away if LICI spot opens below ₹415 or above ₹427.

Traders should keep it in mind that market will remain volatile. Hence this strategy is strictly for traders who can understand the margin commitments and the risks involved in trading futures.
