Take a look at a series of photographs from the Gateshead FC vs Newcastle United match, as Kevin Keegan was honoured on Tyneside. Today's pre-season friendly, at the Gateshead International Stadium, provided NUFC with the first opportunity to commemorate 'King Kev'.

Ahead of kick-off, a banner for Keegan was brought onto the pitch, with the players, all of which were wearing black armbands as the region continues to mourn his loss, observing a minutes silence along with everyone else in the stadium.

This was the first time that Newcastle fans have had the chance to see their team live since the end of last season, allowing those who have left a tribute at St James' Park for the local legend to come together with their beloved club in the wake of his sad passing.

The match itself, the second time that the two teams have played each other in three years after the Toon beat the Heed 3-2 in 2023, was an intriguing one, and finished with the scores level at 1-1, with the fifth division outfit leading for most of the match.

Luke Supyk put Gateshead ahead in the 34th minute and looked set to win with that solitary goal, until good work from Lewis Hall down the left forced Heed defender Ben Williams to unfortunately turn the ball into the back of his own net.

Both sides will be able to take positives from the game, and the fans will have probably been the happiest at full-time, having the opportunity to mark the passing of a true footballing great, and seeing an entertaining football match at the same time.
