A video showing a man in a white kurta-pyjama and cap, along with several others, forcibly dismantling a temporary straw fence is being shared (here, here, here) with the claim that the incident took place in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, where a group of Muslims allegedly gathered in a village and attacked the houses of Hindus.

Claim: The video shows Muslims attacking the houses of Hindus in a village in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh.

Fact: The video shows a dispute over the removal of an encroachment on a government road. The FIR confirms that both parties involved in the dispute are Muslims, and there is no communal angle to the incident. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

Upon conducting a reverse image search using keyframes from the viral video, we found a clarification issued by the Gonda Police in the comments section of an X post sharing the video. On August 7, Gonda Police clarified that the video dates back to 5 June 2026 and is related to a dispute over the removal of an encroachment on a government road in a village.

According to the police, a person identified as Bablu alias Afroz had allegedly encroached on government land. When Vakil Ahmed, Israr Ahmed, Salim, and Tasleem attempted to remove the encroachment, a dispute broke out between the two sides and later escalated into a physical altercation. Based on a complaint filed by Bablu, the police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police further stated that on 16 June 2026, a joint team from the police and revenue departments visited the site and removed the encroachment from the public road. The police also said that the law-and-order situation in the area is currently peaceful.

Based on this information, we located the FIR registered in connection with the incident. The FIR confirms that both parties involved in the dispute are Muslims, indicating that the incident has no communal angle.

Further, we also contacted the Itiyathok Police Station. Speaking to Factly, the police clarified that there is no communal angle to the case. Both the parties involved in the dispute are from the Muslim community.

To sum up, this video showing a local dispute in Gonda is falsely shared as a communal attack on Hindus.
