Claim: The video shows a Muslim woman throwing slippers at a statue of Shivaji Maharaj.
Fact: The video does show a woman throwing slippers at a statue of Shivaji Maharaj in Sasane Nagar, Pune, on 10 August 2026. The woman has been identified as Ashwini Dagde and is a Hindu. Media reports and Girisha Nimbalkar, Senior Police Inspector at Kalepadal Police Station, confirmed that the woman involved in the incident is not Muslim. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to multiple social media posts (here, here, and here) by media outlets featuring the same visuals. According to these posts, the incident took place in Sasane Nagar, Pune, Maharashtra, on 10 August 2026. In one of the posts, we also noticed the woman seen in the viral video, surrounded by several individuals, with ink smeared on her face, and with female police officers. We also learned that the Kalepadal Police Station had filed a case against the woman, who was identified as Ashwini Dagde (here, here).
We then contacted Girisha Nimbalkar, Senior Police Inspector at Kalepadal Police Station. She refuted the viral claim and clarified that the woman involved in the incident is not Muslim and is identified as Ashwini Dagde. She also confirmed that the police filed a case against her on 10 August 2026 and arrested her. The police are investigating the reason behind her throwing slippers at the statue of Shivaji Maharaj.
To sum up, the woman who threw slippers at the Shivaji Maharaj statue in Sasane Nagar, Pune, is not Muslim.
