Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus, known professionally as beabadoobee, performs her set at T-Mobile stage on Sunday, Aug 2.

Glowing in the sunset light, beabadoobee began her Lollapalooza performance by promoting her new album “Pylon,” and playing “Sun Has Set.”

The Filipino-British singer and songwriter started with three of her songs that have a harder, rock-like feel to them. This garnered interest, but not engagement from the audience, since many didn’t know the songs’ lyrics.

Beabadoobee’s music falls into the categories of indie-pop and alternative, typically highlighting themes of self-expression, vulnerability and everyday life.

She started recording music in 2017 and gained popularity by sharing her songs on social media, which resonated with Generation Z with her feature on Powfu’s “death bed (coffee for your head)” and with her song “Coffee.”

While the front of the field was packed to watch her set, the back remained sparse, dispersed around the large puddles of mud scattered throughout the field.

The audience only came alive at the fourth song, hearing beabadoobee speak the words “We both like apple cider.”

Take a bite” was accompanied by the crowd singing along, and the voice sounds from T-Mobile’s stage were heard near Perry’s stage.

Many listeners opted to sit on the grassy hills surrounding the field, rather than trudge into the mud to view the performance ‌up close.

Regardless, viewers on the field put up their hands and swayed through “Pictures of Us.”

Beabadoobee’s characteristically sweet voice and playful demeanor came to light during “She Plays Bass,” and her smile could be heard through the lyrics.

She closed out her set with “Beaches” from her 2024 album “This Is How Tomorrow Moves.”
