An AI-native Scrum Team is not simply a Scrum Team that just uses AI tools. It is a team that incorporates AI capabilities into how it plans, builds, delivers, collaborates, and learns while still preserving Scrum's core principles. These are the specifications of an AI-native Scrum Team:1- Fewer human team membersAs a significant amount of work is delegated to AI, fewer human team members are needed. 2-Product Owner shiftFocused on strategic decisions and validates AI-generated customer value. 3- Developers shiftDevise, setup, and orchestrate AI agents. They don't write code; they write precise prompts and review the AI-generated work. 4- Scrum Master shiftBecomes the AI catalyst and coach, accountable for the team’s effectiveness in the AI landscape. 5- AI is embedded in the teamThe team consciously uses AI in all aspects of their work to plan, build, deliver, collaborate, and learn. 6- Shorter SprintsAs building the product is no longer the bottleneck, shorter Sprints are used to have more experiments. 7- New value for customers with AI featuresThe team not only leverages AI to build the product, but also adds AI features to the product to deliver new value to customers. 8- Strong AI literacyTeam members deeply know how AI works and how to effectively collaborate with AI. Becoming an AI-native Scrum Team is not a one-night job but a journey. I call it AI Transformation journey. But before that, you need a decision to start the journey. AI is the future of how we work.
