EARLY AUGUST ISN’T FALL, not in any stretch of the autumn-obsessed imagination, but you can start to sense that things are about to shift, even if they’re not quite in full-on change mode quite yet. Halloween decorations are already prominently displayed at your local home goods emporium and back-to-school sales are tempting us with crayons and pencil cases. And in Sebastopol, a fruit that sweetly spans the summer-into-fall stretch is having its big and boisterous moment, thanks to a festival that has held crunchy sway for over half a century. It’s the Gravenstein apple, that pretty pomme that goes well with everything, and at a two-day jamboree it is the snacky and sippable star. The dates for the 2026 Gravenstein Apple Festival fall squarely in the heart of Augtober: Be at Ragle Ranch Park Aug. 8 and 9.

APPLE ALLEY… is the tasty thoroughfare you will want to roll through once you arrive, and if you’re already planning on devouring apple fritters, apple spice cake, and the Caramel Apple Sandwich from Kindred Caramels, you’re in some kind of luscious luck. Apple cider also makes a cool-down cameo, if you want to jumpstart that fall flavor. Look also for hard cider, beer, and wine, as well as hearty, fill-up foodstuffs. Live music is part of the homespun scene, as are kid-focused fun times; apple juggling is on the roster, and a watermelon toss, and the adorable opportunity to meet farm animals. Speaking of these baa-ing and bleatful beauties, Sonoma County Farm Trails, the nonprofit behind Blossoms, Bees & Barnyard Babies, is the beneficiary of the apple-vibrant extravaganza.
