This way to Julian: The picturesque mountain town has a tasty summer on tap

Дата публикации: 25-05-2026 16:55:29

LINGERING ON A BENCH, or sitting in a window seat, while the foliage is fabulously foliage-y and fall is in full and colorful swing, is one of Julian’s most joy-filled pleasures. Upping that pleasure is a crisp and kicky fruit that is synonymous with the San Diego County village, a fall-famous goodie that stars in tarts, pies, and pretty much anything else that can be stuffed with, or topped by, an apple. But before Julian’s cinnamon-scented autumn afternoons begin, there is sweet summer, a time when the history-rich village shines in all matters of supping and sipping. For that’s when Taste of Julian and Sip of Julian appetizingly unfurl, with a bevy of bites, apple-and-otherwise, on the menu. Bites and beverages and brews, too, of course, because the town is also known for savory fare and not just dessert-y foods (though dessert is, well, the apple of the town’s eye).
TASTE OF JULIAN… is up first, in late June, and tickets are on sale now. “While apples will always be revered by the hamlet of Julian, we have more than apples to celebrate and Taste of Julian is designed to do just that… celebrate the deliciously diverse culinary delights culinary delights Julian has to offer,” is the word from organizers. We’re obsessed with apples, forever and ever, but sandwiches, burgers, pastas, tacos, and other goodies also beckon us to the Gold Rush burg June 27. Just about a month later, on July 25, Sip of Julian will line up the ciders, wines, and other spirited libations; “small bites” will also be part of the celebratory day. And if you’re seeking more late-summer adventures in the area, the Julian Mountain Brewfest is scheduled for Aug. 22 and the Julian Grape Stomp Festa rolls out the barrels Sept. 5.

Apples are part of the village's charm, for sure, but so are all sorts of eats and sips; a few fests will spotlight that variety.
