ALUMNI MAGAZINES… may regularly land in your mailbox, and alumni bulletins and newsletters, and a variety of different publications that keep you in the know about where you came from, oh so long ago. But a special place devoted to helping beautiful beasties get adopted has a different approach to getting the ol’ gang back together, and it involves a party for rescue animals that have long been settled in their forever homes. Talk about putting the “awww” in alumni: The Helen Woodward Animal Center’s annual “Puppy Prom” is a Fido-focused festivity that truly pulls the heartstrings, and there’s no surprise as to why: Pups get gussied-up in formal wear and strut among former fellow rescues, all to help other animals in need. Sweet: The 2026 event will trot into the McGregor’s Bar & Grill in San Diego May 17, and entry is free.
Break out the tutus and pearls: It’s time to prom-it-up, in support of Helen Woodward Animal Center, on May 17.
SOMETHING EXTRA SWEET? You don’t need to have adopted a pooch from Helen Woodward to attend; the event is open “… to all who support animal rescue, no matter what shelter they hail from.” A King and Queen will be chosen, oh goodness, and there is a cute-cute-cute category devoted to “Floats,” should your pup choose to roll in while riding at the center of a decorate wagon. Another charming category will festively focus on “Dogs & Their Dates,” with humans and hounds wearing matching or complementary attire. And “Going Stag” puts the spotlight solely on dressy dogs and their elegant outfits. Good to know? Contest entry is $20 (per competition) and you are welcome to enter your prom star in one or all of the lighthearted competitions.
A bow tie paired with sequins is pure prom style.
WELCOME BACK, CANINE CUTIES: “Puppy Prom is one of my favorite events of the year,” said Helen Woodward Animal Center Adoptions Services Director Kendall Schulz. “We love to see pets experience their happily ever after, and there’s nothing cuter than seeing them return for Puppy Prom looking like a million bucks.” While entry is indeed free, the May 17 party is a fundraiser for the center: “100% of proceeds from contest fees and opportunity drawings go directly to supporting orphan pets at Helen Woodward Animal Center.” Also nice: McGregor’s Bar & Grill will also donate 30% of the money made on eats and sips during the 11 a.m. to 1 o’clock event.
