It's hot in the desert but cool higher up: The tram's Summer Pass starts now

Дата публикации: 01-05-2026 12:22:13

SUMMER PASSES? These limited-time passports can provide you entry to a variety of places and/or to a host of experiences. Movie buffs might snag a pass to their local theater, those who like a good splash might pass-it-up at the local swimming hole, and attractions can offer passes to help people get outside with, a minimal fee required. But only one pass, at least around the Golden State, takes you up, up, up from the desert floor to an alpine scene in a matter of a few view-blessed minutes. It’s the Tramway Summer Pass, a seasonal offering that has become a must-get during the desert’s roast-iest season. If you’re planning on toodling about the Coachella Valley this summer and want to explore some of the upper reaches of Mount San Jacinto State Park, you can purchase your Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Summer Pass pronto, and start using it, too, as soon as you like: The first day passes will be accepted is May 1.
Ride the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway through Aug. 31, as much as you like, for $85.
THE PRICE? It’s $85 for adults and seniors, while a child’s pass is $45 (that’s good for kids ages 3 to 10). The passholder will enjoy unlimited admissions, while other people in the passholder’s party can purchase a ticket and save 10% (up to four people may do so). Also nice? That 10%-off deal extends to the restaurants at Mountain Station, if you plan on lunching before or after a hike among the pines outside. Just be sure to tie a sweatshirt around your waist before departing the desert floor for the station, which sits at 8,516 feet: It can be 30 degrees cooler on the mountain, or even a bit chillier than that, verging into 40-degrees-or-more territory. Once you’re topside, there are plenty of gorgeous hiking trails, over 50 miles in all, and picnic areas, too, in the “pristine wilderness” of the state park.
THE SEASON BEGINS: You can’t cover all 14,000 acres before heading back down, but a cool-down day spent in an alpine acre or two can be a balm on the hottest summer afternoons. Passes are good May 1 through Aug. 31, so get tramming, hiking, lunching, and exploring.
