Flash floods triggered by rains disrupted road connectivity in some parts of Rampur subdivision of the Shimla district as moderate rains continued to lash Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, officials said.

A rise in the water level following the floods damaged a temporary bridge over the Ganvi khad stream, blocking the link roads to the twin panchayats of Kyao and Kut and causing significant hardship to the local population.

Videos of stranded commuters on both sides of the stream and locals making efforts to restore the path by removing the stones have gone viral on social media.

Heavy rainfall in the upper reaches of the Samej khad stream area on Tuesday evening had triggered a flash flood in the stream. The strong currents submerged the road at several points, disrupting traffic at multiple locations and causing major difficulties for commuters.

A three-storey building-cum-office of a private company collapsed after a huge mound of garbage crashed onto it at Moshi in Pune district of Maharashtra on Wednesday, officials said, adding that at least seven of 16 people trapped under the debris have been rescued alive till evening.

Efforts are underway to rescue at least eight to nine individuals who remain stuck.

At least 16 persons were trapped after the garbage mound collapsed onto the building at 1:45 pm following heavy rains in the Pimpri Chinchwad area, a senior official had said.

“So far, seven people have been rescued from the debris, and efforts to rescue the remaining persons are underway,” said Bhosari MIDC police station officer.

One person died while five to six others are still feared trapped after a three-storey under-construction building collapsed in Delhi’s Rohini area on Wednesday, police said.

“One person died due to the collapse. There are chances of five to six people still being trapped. Rescue operation remains underway,” a senior police officer told PTI. 

Two people were pulled out alive from the debris earlier, while rescuers continued searching for individuals trapped beneath the rubble.

A landslide triggered by rains struck the Vaishno Devi yatra track atop Trikota hills in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Wednesday evening, forcing the suspension of the battery car service, officials said.

The pilgrimage to the revered shrine remained unaffected, with hundreds of pilgrims continuing their to-and-fro trek despite the landslide, they said.

The officials said the landslide occurred near Himkoti on the new track leading to the shrine following heavy rainfall.

The Shrine Board immediately rushed men and machines to clear the debris from the route, they said.

After a brief respite, heavy rains accompanied by thunder returned to Mumbai on Wednesday morning, delaying local train services, causing inconvenience to office-goers and diversion of flights. 

Long-distance train services towards Gujarat remained disrupted due to waterlogging in the Vasai-Virar section in neighbouring Palghar district and at several locations in south Gujarat. Operations on the Mumbai–Pune route were also yet to be fully restored following landslides in the Bhor Ghat section on Monday.

The southwest monsoon remained active in Rajasthan on Wednesday, drenching several districts with Kota’s Ramganj Mandi recording the state’s highest rainfall of 10 cm, and the IMD warning of more showers over the next two-three days.

The meteorological department said that under the influence of a well-marked low-pressure area over northwestern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Uttar Pradesh, widespread rainfall activity is likely to continue across Rajasthan for the next two to three days.

Ramganj Mandi recorded 10 cm of rainfall, followed by Nithuwa in Dungarpur and Badi Sadri in Chittorgarh with 9 cm each. Kathumar in Alwar and Ajmer received 8 cm each, while several other places recorded less than 8 cm during the 24-hour period ending Wednesday morning.

As many as 22 students were injured, one of them seriously, after a private school bus overturned into a small roadside drain in Latur district of central Maharashtra on Wednesday morning, police said.

The accident took at place around 9.30 am when the bus, carrying around 35 students of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Vidyalaya at Rachannawadi, was heading towards the school. The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and overturn into a small drain near Sandol-Mahandol road in Chakur tehsil, Inspector Balaji Bhande told PTI citing preliminary information.

The injured students were immediately rushed to the Rural Hospital at Chakur by local residents who reached the spot after hearing about the accident, said police.

Chakur police station inspector Bhande, along with his team, reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation.

Ambulances were arranged to shift the injured children to the hospital. Parents also rushed to the accident site and the hospital, demanding strict action against the driver and school management.

At least eight people are feared trapped after three-storey building collapsed following heavy rains in Pimpri Chinchwad in Pune district on Wednesday (July 8, 2026), a senior official said.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. at Moshi, where the building was being used as an administrative office of a private company processing waste at the site on behalf of the civic body.

“The administrative building was situated next to a mountain-like pile of legacy waste. Prima facie, it appears that due to heavy rains, the waste mound became loose and collapsed on top of the building,” said Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi. He said as many as 16 employees of the private company were believed to be inside the building.

As heavy rains lashed Delhi, an under-construction house collapsed in northwest Delhi’s Rohini on Wednesday evening, prompting a swift response from the Delhi Fire Service, an official said.

The Delhi Fire Service officer said that so far, two people have been removed from the rubble, adding that a rescue operation is underway.

The incident was reported at 4.20 pm near an MCD school in Rohini Sector-16.

The fire department dispatched four rescue teams to the scene to assist with the operation.

Police, NDRF and other teams rushed to the spot, and the area has been cordoned off.

The Sakleshpura tahsildar has issued an order instructing people not to venture near waterfalls, rivers, streams or hilly areas, citing continuous rain in the region.

Tahsildar K.S. Supreetha, in an order issued on July 7, appealed to people to avoid these areas in view of the incessant rain, warning of dangers such as landslips, road slips, falling trees, and a sudden rise in water flow in local water bodies.

The order informed that rainfall had increased water flow, and made the ground slippery, posing a danger to anyone venturing towards such areas.

The water level in the Godavari river has increased amid incessant rains in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, as landslides and road closures have been reported, officials said on Wednesday (July 8, 2026).

The district administration has urged people living on the banks of the Godavari, Kadva and Girna rivers to shift their valuables, livestock and other material to safer places amid the discharge of water from various reservoirs, including Palkhed and Nandur Madhmeshwar weir.

Nashik city received 120 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Wednesday. As a result, many low-lying areas in the city were waterlogged, while roads remained congested due to slow-moving traffic. A few areas also experienced power cuts for some time.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) carried out rescue operations and successfully evacuated 85 individuals, including 36 males, 27 females, and 22 children, at the Sriram Nagar Society, Surat, Gujarat.

Rain soaked Delhi on Wednesday (July 8, 2026), leaving several parts of the city waterlogged and slowing down traffic. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued ‘red’ and ‘orange’ alerts, warning of thunderstorms and more rain over the next few hours.

Safdarjung, the city’s base weather station, recorded a minimum temperature of 25.4 degrees Celsius. It received 14.2 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 am, the IMD said.

It said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy rain were very likely over a few districts and thunderstorms with light to moderate rain were likely over the other districts in the next few hours. Wind speeds are expected to reach 40 kmph.

The sub-Himalayan districts of West Bengal are bracing for very heavy rain during the next two days and heavy rain thereafter till July 13, raising the possibility of landslides in the hills and inundation of low-lying areas in the plains.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that heavy to very heavy rain will occur over Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar till Friday morning, with an extremely heavy downpour at one or two places on Wednesday (July 8, 2026).

The Met office warned of possible landslides in the Darjeeling and Kalimpong hills and inundation of low-lying areas in the plains in the region due to the heavy rain.

It said that heavy rain will occur in the north Bengal districts from July 10 to 13.

The southwest monsoon lashed many parts of Rajasthan on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) as the meteorological department forecast widespread rainfall conditions for the next two to three days.

Ramganj Mandi in Kota district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 10 cm, followed by Nithuwa in Dungarpur and Badi Sadri in Chittorgarh at 9 cm. In Alwar, torrential rain in the morning inundated markets and roads. Water entered several residential colonies.

The department said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Udaipur, Kota and adjoining areas of southeastern and eastern Rajasthan on July 8 and 9 under the influence of a well-marked low-pressure area over northwestern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Uttar Pradesh.

With heavy rains lashing the catchment areas of Pune’s reservoirs, water is being released from the Khadakwasla dam into the Mutha river flowing through the city, leading to waterlogging in some low-lying areas, officials said on Wednesday (July 8, 2026).

At least five families were moved to a safer location after the discharge of water began, an official said.

Over the past three days, Pune city, the ‘ghat’ (mountain pass) sections around it and the catchment areas of four dams – Khadakwasla, Panshet, Warasgaon and Temghar – have been receiving incessant rainfall.

A 50-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured when a roadside tree branch fell on him in Mumbai’s Andheri area on Wednesday morning (July 8, 2026) amid heavy rainfall, civic officials said.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Nagardas Road near DJ House, close to the Andheri subway, they said.

The injured man, identified as Aadesh Gaikar, was rushed to the civic-run Cooper Hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, a civic official said, adding that his condition was stable.

Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Garden Department, police and power distributor BEST were rushed to the spot to clear the fallen tree branch, the official said.

Train services between Neral and Karjat stations in Maharashtra’s Raigad district remained suspended for nearly an hour on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) after the overflowing Ulhas river caused waterlogging on tracks, officials said.

Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, said that no trains operated in either direction between 10:40 a.m. and 11:32 a.m.

He said the Ulhas river had been flowing above the danger level since 9:30 a.m. amid heavy rains in the catchment areas. This led to the inundation of the tracks, he said.

More than 94,200 people in Arunachal Pradesh across 333 villages in 26 districts have been affected by fresh spells of heavy rainfall, triggering floods and landslides.

The monsoonal fury has damaged infrastructure and crops across these districts, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) said in its latest report.

According to the SEOC, Upper Siang was the worst-hit district, followed by Siang and Kra-Daadi. Upper Siang recorded landslides at 16 locations.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds over Mumbai and adjoining districts on Wednesday, even as heavy rain-triggered waterlogging disrupted rail traffic on the Western Railway network.

According to the IMD, Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated places in Palghar expected to witness extremely heavy rainfall. Wind speeds of 60-70 kmph are also likely over parts of the Konkan region.

The weather office said rainfall activity is expected to gradually reduce from July 9 onwards. Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are also likely to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places.

The IMD warned that the intense rainfall could lead to localised flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods, disruption of road, rail, air and ferry services, rough sea conditions along the Konkan coast, landslides in vulnerable areas, and damage to crops and weak structures. It advised people to avoid waterlogged areas, check traffic conditions before travelling and take precautions during thunderstorms.

The weather department added that light to moderate rainfall is expected across most districts from July 12, after the initial spell of heavy rain.

A significant monsoon spell has swept across North India, offering a welcome reprieve from sweltering heat in the national capital while triggering high-alert warnings for neighbouring States.

In New Delhi, residents experienced a dip in temperatures by 1-2 degrees Celsius following moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the past 24 hours.

The Centre on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) said that the rainfall deficit has come down to 12%, with the first week of July recording above-normal monsoon activity, and asserted that an El Nino year may not necessarily lead to below-normal rainfall.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in the context of the progress of the kharif season and possible impact due to El Nino on other sectors of the economy, a high-level review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary to Prime Minister PK Mishra to review and take stock of the preparedness measures undertaken in this regard.

At the outset of the meeting, officials of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) presented the overall rainfall situation from June to July 7, while its director general provided an update on the status of monsoon coverage in the country and the possible impact of El Nino.

There was a delay in the onset of monsoon by about 10 days in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.

Most parts of Uttarakhand received moderate to heavy rainfall on Tuesday (July 7, 2026), with falling debris from the hills leading to closure of 32 roads, officials said.

According to the Dehradun Meteorological Centre, Pantnagar recorded 107 mm rainfall, followed by Chorgalia (79.5 mm), Rudrapur (43.5 mm), Yamkeshwar (38 mm), Kichha (32.5 mm), Khanpur (27 mm), Dehradun and Laksar (19 mm each), Hathibarkala (15 mm), Pithoragarh (8.9 mm), and Lohaghat (8 mm).

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), a total of 32 roads are blocked due to debris accumulation caused by the rain. Efforts to clear and reopen them are underway.

After two days of relentless downpour that battered Mumbai, the rains eased on Tuesday (July 7, 2026), offering residents a welcome respite as local train services and road transport returned to normal.

Between 8 am and 8 pm, Mumbai recorded an average rainfall of 22.39 mm. The eastern and western suburbs received 23.04 mm and 25.93 mm of rain, respectively.

Train services on the Western Railway were, however, disrupted again on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) evening after water levels rose above the danger mark between Vasai and Virar stations following heavy rain, officials said.

The first spell of heavy monsoon rain on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) afternoon brought Gurugram to its knees as road cave-ins, waterlogging and unending traffic jams were reported from across the city, with the authorities rolling out extensive measures to restore normalcy in the NCR.

The main carriageway on the Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH-48) caved in near Narsinghpur due to heavy rainfall, forcing closure of two lanes. This triggered a massive traffic jam stretching several kilometers, between Hero Honda Chowk and the Kherki Daula Toll Plaza, leaving commuters stranded.

Gurugram police issued a traffic advisory and diverted vehicles moving on the route. “To ensure smooth traffic flow and prioritise the safety of motorists travelling from Delhi towards Jaipur, route diversions have been implemented,” it read.
