Delhi government agencies have been put on alert under the instructions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to prevent waterlogging after the city received heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, officials said on Thursday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded 72.6 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am.
The officials said the waterlogging situation at all main roads in the city was under control, and teams of Public Works Department (PWD), the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) are deployed on the ground.
Waterlogging was seen in several parts of the city, including Vikas Marg, areas in East Delhi, New Delhi railway station, Munirka, Sadar Bazar and Dwarka. - PTI
The Southwest Monsoon covered the entire country on July 9, which is one day later than its normal schedule, whereas coverage during the last four years was earlier than normal. Kharif sowing, which has already taken a hit on account of 37 per cent deficit rainfall in June, is expected to pick up as the first nine days of this month has reported 38 per cent surplus rain.

A monsoon in India is expected to bring below-average rainfall to the country’s western and southern regions over the next fortnight after heavy rain lashed the west coast this week, potentially slowing the sowing of cotton, soybeans and corn, two senior weather officials said.
The monsoon delivers about 70% of India’s annual rains to replenish crucial water sources in the nearly $4 trillion economy, where nearly half of farmland lacks irrigation and about half the population earns its livelihood from agriculture. (Reuters)

We had promised that we would build a proper system for Delhi so that people could actually enjoy the rain... In the last 24 hours, Delhi has received more than 100 mm of rainfall. Even after that, at Minto Bridge, where even large buses and other vehicles used to get stranded, the traffic is moving completely smoothly... We have installed 179 cameras across 45 locations that were previously prone to severe waterlogging and where people in Delhi had to endure traffic jams for hours because water remained accumulated. Today, in most cases, the water is drained within 10 to 15 minutes.

The Delhi Government is working on a war footing to tackle the waterlogging situation. All government agencies are on high alert following orders from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has taken direct stock of the situation, directing all administrative agencies to remain on “high alert” to mitigate the impact of the downpour.
Incessant heavy rainfall across the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday morning triggered severe waterlogging in several areas, disrupting daily life and slowing down traffic for morning commuters in Noida and Ghaziabad.
The monsoon rain belt may be shifting away from Central and West India, but a broader assessment of reservoir storage, crop sowing prospects and likelihood of another revival suggests there is little reason for undue concern for the country’s farmers or crops.
(PTI) Mumbai woke up to an overcast sky, but largely rain-free conditions on Thursday after days of incessant monsoon showers, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast intermittent rainfall later in the day.
Despite the cloudy weather, it did not rain in most parts of the city during the morning, providing relief after a prolonged wet spell that had caused waterlogging, tree falls, traffic snarls and disruption to suburban rail services.
Delhi woke up to grey skies, waterlogged roads and uprooted trees as overnight rain continued through Thursday morning, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a ‘red’ alert for the day.
