Boston City Councilor Julia Mejia suffered a medical emergency during a meeting Wednesday, sources told NBC10 Boston.
Video from the meeting shows concerned colleagues on the council reacting. City Councilor Enrique Pepén abruptly stopped addressing the body as people yelled “Julia!” and “call 911!”
Boston EMS told NBC10 Boston that it responded to the council chamber and transported a patient to an area hospital, but could not provide any further information due to patient privacy laws.
NBC10 Boston reached out to Mejia Wednesday afternoon.
The Boston Globe reported that emergency personnel were called to the chamber at City Hall shortly before 1:30 p.m., and that Mejia appeared conscious when she was removed on a stretcher about 10 minutes later.
“Wishing that our colleague is okay,” Pepén told the Globe.
A city spokesperson said Mayor Michelle Wu spoke with Mejia afterward, and was “relieved to hear that she is doing well.”
“We wish Councilor Mejia a swift and full recovery, and look forward to her quick return,” the spokesperson added.
No further information was immediately available.
