From technoparks to food and pharma: What Belarus offers Myanmar

MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin outlined proposals to advance cooperation between Belarus and Myanmar during the Belarus-Myanmar Business Forum in Minsk on 20 August, BelTA has learned.

Promising areas of partnership include agriculture and food security initiatives. “Given today’s fierce global competition, we must place a special focus on the agricultural industry. Providing our citizens with high-quality, affordable food is a matter of national security. Belarus has a strong track record in this area and is eager to fully cover Myanmar’s market demand for high-quality powdered milk, baby food, rapeseed oil, and butter. For its part, the Belarusian market requires a broad spectrum of agricultural goods produced in Myanmar. Considering the current depth of our bilateral ties, we are keen on developing a more profound and substantive partnership regarding food security. In particular, we suggest that Myanmar leverage Belarusian technologies to set up its own domestic processing industry. You can fully rely on our active support in establishing highly efficient production facilities inside Myanmar,” Aleksandr Turchin said.

Another key priority is partnership in healthcare and pharmaceuticals. “Myanmar’s pharmaceutical industry can access high-quality, affordable medications made in Belarus. We are eager to boost our pharmaceutical exports and simultaneously suggest taking the next step: localizing production within Myanmar. A joint venture to package Belarusian bulk products at Myanmar facilities could serve as the initial phase. Furthermore, our businesses are currently developing a socially vital project to assemble mobile medical units. Launching this initiative will significantly improve healthcare accessibility in Myanmar’s remote regions,” the prime minister said.

Partnership in high-tech, science, and professional training is equally relevant. “We are glad that in this sector, Belarus and Myanmar are moving past mere declarations and taking concrete action, such as establishing a joint high-tech park in Naypyidaw. Specifically, it entails the joint development of technology solutions for the remote monitoring of natural resources. This is an ambitious yet fully achievable project. We completely share the Myanmar leadership’s commitment to securing digital sovereignty. Belarus is ready to offer relevant solutions powered by artificial intelligence and computer vision, which can be applied to both the digital economy and e-government systems,” he said.

A crucial component of high-tech cooperation is training a skilled workforce. “Without professionally trained personnel, any technology remains useless. Therefore, Belarus is ready to train Myanmar engineers and researchers at our leading scientific and academic centers. This will allow them to integrate seamlessly into all proposed projects, from tractor assembly to joint ventures in the space industry. Launching joint educational programs in Myanmar will help train specialists tailored to the economy’s needs, ensuring long-term technological continuity,” Aleksandr Turchin concluded.
