LOCOMOTIVE LOOKS AND TRAIN FASHION? Board any Metrolink train and you’re bound to come across an assortment of outfits, with casual commuters, Spandex-rocking bicyclists, day trippers sporting shorts, and dressy passengers filling the seats. But if you take the regional passenger rail system May 16 and 17, you might find yourself in a splendid strawberry field of sorts, or at least a fashionable field of strawberry-inspired styles. The whimsical reason behind this? The California Strawberry Festival is taking place all weekend at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, and Metrolink is making special stops, at a few specific times, at the Ventura-Downtown/Beach Station.
“MODIFIED SERVICE” FOR FEST FANS: “Metrolink is proud to connect riders to one of Ventura County’s most beloved traditions,” Metrolink Board Second Vice-Chair and Camarillo City Councilmember Tony Trembley said. “This weekend’s modified service makes it easy for families to skip the event traffic and leave the stress of parking at the venue behind.” Go with the $10 SoCal Day Pass for a day of riding — such the sweet, sweet deal, as sweet as a strawberry — and note the special times for the Ventura-Downtown/Beach Station stop. “Metrolink trains are scheduled to arrive at the Ventura-Downtown/Beach Station each day at 12:19 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. and depart at 12:53 p.m. and 4:14 p.m.” is the word from Metrolink. Do keep in mind, too, that “… on weekends, up to three children 17 and under also ride free with a paying adult.” Also important? Ventura-East Station will be bypassed May 16 and 17.
AS FOR YOUR SWANKY STRAWBERRY STYLE? The famous festival, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, has a daily parade spotlighting those fair goers dressed in strawberry-inspired outfits. Find something fruit-forward to wear, then make for Ventura County Fairgrounds May 16 and 17 for the snacky and bright celebration.
