Stretford is the centre place for fans of everything comic, gaming, anime, and sci-fi this weekend. With the event offering a wide array of activities, merchandise, and more across Saturday and Sunday, we decided to check it out ourselves.
The action-packed weekend has brought down a wide array of famous faces across some major franchises, including Doctor Who, Aliens, Predator, Game of Thrones, and The Hobbit, to name a few. Fans of these franchises have the opportunity to meet some of their favourite actors while also getting their own merchandise signed as well as picture opportunities.
Cosplayers also have the chance to show off their outfits while engaging with like-minded people. Meanwhile, gamers can try a range of retro, tabletop, and modern console games in the event's included Gaming Zone.

While visiting the convention at Bowler’s Exhibition Centre this Saturday (July 25) with my young daughter, we wanted to see just how much Manchester Comic Con offers as a day out for people of all ages. What will first strike any parent/child combo visiting the Artist Alley is the sheer variety of collectables, memorabilia, and merchandise.
Regardless of the franchises or interests your child is into, you’re sure to find something to get them to add as a memento for your visit. We also found that it was easy to find a variety of things from independent artists and brands that are not usually readily available while still being suitable for all ages.
Meanwhile, the Gaming Zone itself provided a good opportunity to sit down and do something aside from spending money on food and drinks, something that should be welcomed at all similar conventions. There were plenty of retro games available to play, and this easily sunk up close to an hour on its own.
While, unfortunately, there weren’t any celeb guests visiting this time that my child was interested in, it was still a welcome sight to see such a sizeable amount of familiar faces from some major franchises - at least I had fun explaining to my child who each one was and why so many people were queued up to see them.
It was also pleasant to see a constant run of various live panels and Q&As for fans to engage in, although we were so distracted running around and trying out loads of different things and seeing stalls that we didn’t find much time to sit down and get engaged. One of the key highlights of the convention, though, was the wide array of cosplays from an innumerable number of games, movies, anime, and other franchises.
Regardless of whether you’re someone wanting to try a cosplay for the first time or an experienced veteran, Comic Con Manchester creates a welcoming and inclusive environment for people to show their love for their favourite characters. We also found that plenty of accommodations have been made for those in wheelchairs or with other accessibility needs, and those concerned shouldn’t have any worries seeing all the attractions they want to.
Visitors should keep in mind, though, that due to the sheer popularity of the event, we did find it difficult to find a place to sit down and rest, and this is definitely something that should be kept in mind, especially if travelling with a large group. While only a short walk away, taxi and vehicle accessibility is, for the general public, not right outside of the convention centre, so be sure to add that into your travel plans.
But, all in all, when I asked my little one if she would want to go again, I received a resounding ‘yes’, which, at the end of the day, is all you can ask for.
For those who missed the opportunity to visit Comic Con Manchester yesterday still have the chance to visit the Bowlers Exhibition Centre throughout today (July 26). At the time of writing, a wide variety of tickets are available, with those aged between five and nine getting entry for £12.10 while those aged 10 and over can visit from £29.70.
